Is a security officer allowed to grab someone they saw shoplifting and also take their backpack? Hypothetical: We'll call the person X X walks into a shop. Gets in, packs his bags with some items from the shop, and gets outside. Security guard comes outside, produces ID, grabs X, and asks X to step back into the store. Does the security officer have the right to grab X on the suspicion (possible witness) of theft? Also, when X attempts to run, the security officer grabs his bag, and X doesn't get it back. Is that considered theft on the security's part? Also, what rights does X have? Can the security gaurd be charged with assault and theft? Thanks!

How can i tell the difference between a normal security tag and an ink security tag? I have a dress i'm supposed to be wearing to a party friday night and i really don't have time to go back to the store and ask them to take out the security tag they left in. if it's an ink security tag, i'll go back to the store and ask them to take it out because i don't want ink all over my dress, but if it's a normal security tag i'd rather just take it out myself (how do i do that?!)
How to get social security card so that I am able to work legally? What are going to be the global security issues over the next 10 or 15 years? I have a declared interest in this one - I work in supply chain security. I'm supposed to know all the answers but manifestly I don't. Is it dirty bombs in sea freight containers? Is it general stupidity allowing another group of hijackings like 9/11? Will it be coercion by kidnap. Where will be the hotspots? I'd really like to see what other people think. Even, are we taking it too far (my feeling is probably yes in we're applying it with a trowel and not using our intelligence to target risk). I see, almost daily, new supply chain security initaitives - and they're all very similar, very onerous, very bureaucratic and definitely one-size-fits-all. What would be a better approach? Do we need security at all? Love to hear from you!

What home security system is best and why? ADT, Brinks, Slomin, etc.... who is the best and why? Please help decide which security system to purchase. Thanks! I mean seriously..... which security company should I use? No dogs... no walls.... ELECTRONIC SYSTEM.
Where can I find information on the Social Security Suspense account? From what I understand the Social Security Administration checks to verify that names and SSN's on W2's match their records. In cases where the name on the W2 does not match the social security number on record, the taxes collected are put into a "suspense" account until the dicrepancy is resolved. This situation would occur if someone were to use a fake social security card, or they make a mistake when filling out their W2. In any case the balance in such an account would have to be Billions $$. Where can I find information on this, such as current balance, balance over time, what is done with the money?
How to arm a home security system? We have a security system that isn't fully functional due to issues with the poor installation but we would still like to be able to arm it at night. Does anyone know how to simply turn on the chimes? No need to fully arm it so police or fire are notified (not like they get notified anyway since the system isn't functioning yet we pay), just want the noise if a door or window is opened. System is a Honeywell. Oh yeah, NEVER buy from Firstline Security out of Colorado. They take your monthly payments, stick you with a system that doesn't work, leave you with a defunct phone line and tell you to upgrade if you want it fixed or pay over $900 to have a non-functioning system removed! We're still fighting with them to fix our system. Nice gig if you can get it! We are locked into an agreement that they won't release us from even though the monitor company they go thru has admitted they can not see our system. So stopping payment would only send our account to collections. Not a smart move.
How do they install home security systems? I am thinking of purchasing a home security system. I wondering if anyone knew how they install it. Do they have to go through your walls? Any opinions on ADT Home security?
How to remove security bars from windows? I bought a house 3 years ago with this old, ugly cast iron security bars over the windows. They are screwed in by these screws that are designed to not turn counter-clockwise as the edges of the slot where the screwdriver would push is filed off. How do I get them off?
What would a private plan offering all that Social Security does cost? Whenever I see debates on the value of Social Security, they always focus on retirement and how much better someone would be if they could invest 12.8% of their income in a retirement account. This always bugs me since Social Security offers quite a few benefits that are not usually discussed.(http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/fed_prog/ssundben/ssundben.pdf). It's kind of like talking with someone about cars, but all that they care about is how fast it goes. So what do you think it would cost for a private company to offer what Social Security does. Any actuaries out there who are up to the challenge? This question is not intended as a debate as to whether Social Security should be privatized. All I am asking for is a rational basis on which to compare government done Social Security to private offerings. There are a few ways to go about this. One would be to analyze what is spent and see what you could get on the market for your 12.8%. Another would be to go backwards from benefits paid and try to figure out what a company should charge for that benefit level and what that would work out to against current income demographics. This question is really not that hard. I'm just looking for a dollar amount with some justification. Instead I am getting responses of the irrational sort that prompted the question in the first place.
What do Social Security Disability recipients need to file to receive their tax rebates? Is there any special form that needs to be filed to receive the tax rebates? I am inquiring for a person I know on Social Security disability who hasn't filed in the last two years and may be entitled to this tax rebate. Any information or direction would be appreciated. I meant to say the rebate check. No, it's not SSI. It's regular Social Security Disability.
Do you have to pay social security on a 1099? My husband was a consultant as a second job and was paid for his services. The company did not take out taxes or social security. Do we need to pay social security on this income? The form was a 1099.
How do social security tax adjustments work? The maximum taxable amount will rise to $97,500 in 2007. The Social Security tax rate is not automatically adjusted and remains 6.2 percent. I'm currently under the max but if I start my new job prior to receiving my severence package will that trigger a notification to my current employer and cause issues as they'll need to make adjustments for it? It's not illegal or wrong to be employed by 2 companies at the same time right? My friend in HR says she gets notifications on these things and has to make the adjustment. I just want to make sure there's no auto notification to my employer if I work somewhere else
How does airport security work with out-of-the country fliers? My mom is a Peruvian citizen, she is coming over to visit me after six years since I moved to the US. I would like to take her on a couple of domestic flights to visit relatives in other states. How does airport security work with a non-citizen flying domestically? What kind of documentation, besides a passport, should we have and what does the process entail? She is a senior citizen and I wouldn't want to have her go through a bad time due to airport officials being difficult when she is coming to have a good time.
How are social security benefits calculated? On my annual social security report, my income for 6 of the past 19 years were incorrect, significantly lower than they should have been. Are benefits upon retiring based on your average income over your working life, or only based on the last year's income that you worked? Is it worth the hassle to correct what was on the report? Will those errors impact the monthly benefit I receive upon retiring? I think my former employer cooked the books and didn't pay SS taxes - is that why the statement is in error? Can I use my old tax returns to prove that I actually made more money than the statement shows? I have a lot of questions but any answers I receive will be greatly appreciated.
What do you know about the security exams? I am MCSE certified and I'm trying to be a security specialist. How many possible ways can social security numbers be altered? I was just wondering. If there are 10 numbers in a social security number and 10 different digits that could be used (0-9) in a SSN, what 's the total of combinations that a SSN can come out to be? And since there is a limited specific number, what are people going to use instead of SSN's when we've already used all the possible social security numbers combinations?
How bad can addiction to surveillance security camera monitoring become? We installed a security camera at our business for about a year, I feel like I constantly have to be checking it and it replaced my normal viewing of television and radio. If the system goes down, I get anxious and scared that I don't see what is happening. I can't read or do any other work as long as I hear at least the white noise from the security camera then i am ok. I could be enjoying myself by listening to music, but no I have to hear every word they are saying. It's taken over my life and I can't turn it off. Anyone else has this experience?
What is the purpose for a security deposit for an apartment? You put down a security deposit for an apartment and when you lease is up, the apartment decides whether or not to give to you based on the condition of your apartment. Well, turns out they need to do carpet cleaning and they want to pay for the carpet cleaning. Isn't that what the security deposit is for? How can I deal w/ this?
What is the most effective home security? We are going to be buying a house this year and are going to have a security system installed. Which is the best company or type of alarm? I have seen the coating for windows that makes them almost impossible to break through, how much does it cost and does it really work? Any suggestions on home security will be appreciated. We will be getting an English bulldog and have 2 cats so motion detectors inside are out.
How much for a good home security system? What do I need for a basic home security system. I don't want anything elaborate as I live in a "safe" area. I want something like a remote operated button that my elderly mom can push in an event someone breaks in. A loud alarm that will go off both inside and outside to "scare" any robbers and alert her neighbors.
Social Security benefits lost if I lose permanent residency? Hello, I am 64 years old and currently collecting Social Security benefits. I am a permanent resident of the U.S., but am considering immigrating to another (S.E. Asian) country. If I do this, I assume I will eventually lose my permanent residency. Will losing my permanent residency affect my SS benefits? That is, will I NOT be able to collect benefits if I lose my permanent residency? Thank you!
