home security? We live in Australia. You arent allowed to keep guns for protection. recently we had in our suburb a home invasion with a machete and sawn off shotgun. they havent caught the people. We have an alarm system but cant use it because of the cats. I get a bit scared sometimes because I feel we don't have enough security if someone came with a gun. We are thinking of installing a sensor light but are there any other suggestions to make your home safer?
How good are home security alarms in apartment buildings ? Are home security alarms necessary in apartment buildings. We own our condo and were considering installing a home security alarm. What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.
Could a home security system interfere with my home theater system? I recently installed a wireless home security systems (ADT), and now I am noticing a clicking emanating from my home theater system. I am wondering if it is caused by the new security, and if so, how can I fix it? A bit of detail on the clicking: it is similar to, but not the same as, the phone interference caused by certain (GSM) phones.
How do they install home security systems? I am thinking of purchasing a home security system. I wondering if anyone knew how they install it. Do they have to go through your walls? Any opinions on ADT Home security?
What is the most effective home security? We are going to be buying a house this year and are going to have a security system installed. Which is the best company or type of alarm? I have seen the coating for windows that makes them almost impossible to break through, how much does it cost and does it really work? Any suggestions on home security will be appreciated. We will be getting an English bulldog and have 2 cats so motion detectors inside are out.
Anyone ever installed a home security alarm inside a car? Im planning on doing it. Installing a home security system that has door sensors and a motion senor inside my ultilty van that is full of equipment. The system can run on either 120AC or 12VDC (stated as backup battery since installing them in vehicles is never really talked about) anyone have any tips or suggestions? will it run my battery dead? does it pull much power? will it work?
What is the best security system for your home? I was recently mugged and am worried the attackers will come to my home because I fought back since they have my id among other things. What are the rates for home security systems and which is the best???
How much for a good home security system? What do I need for a basic home security system. I don't want anything elaborate as I live in a "safe" area. I want something like a remote operated button that my elderly mom can push in an event someone breaks in. A loud alarm that will go off both inside and outside to "scare" any robbers and alert her neighbors.
How do I set the code on my home security system? I purchased a home that has a security system installed. It has motion sensors in some rooms, and door sensors on every exterior door. I know it is functional as I see it respond to the various sensors, but do not know the code to arm it. The previous owner's disconnected the service to the company that calls the police and forgot the code. I just want to use it as a passive system that sounds the alarm when breached, but cannot arm it without the code. Any guesses on how i can set it? The manufacturer of the alarm is no longer in business, but is Apollo Security.
Could you recommend a home security system? I have been looking at ADT, Alarm Force, and Magen for Toronto. I want the two way voice monitoring as well as smoke detector monitoring. Alarm Force seems to be the best choice. Does someone have a bad/good experience to share about any of these home security systems?
Who is the best home security company and why? My neighbors house was robbed and now we want to get a home security system from a company like ADT, GE Protect America, Brinks, or Guardian. Has anyone used any of these companies and have an opinion about them. Obviously we'd like to get the best system for the best price. Who has that? So far I am leaning towards GE Protect America. Thanks all
I want to get a home security system, which is the best? Hi I live in the midwest I am looking to get a home security system and monthly monitoring. I want one that is legit, has good customer service and has reliable equipment that will last (not break). I do not want to mess with wireless, or anything that will interfere with my existing wireless networks. Does anyone have a company to recommend or one to avoid?? Any advice at all would help, thanx!
I am getting a home secuity system. Should i display my security stickers? I saw on tv one day , that you should not display your home security stickers. This would enable the theft / robber to familiarize /master your alarm system <brinks, adt, etc...> They might be able to get some default codes. and overide your house alarm... What do you think? Do you display your house alarm stickers? Thanks!
How do you stop an inactive DSC home security system from beeping randomly? I bought a house about 2 years ago with a DSC home security system installed by the provious owner. I have never activated the service. When I first moved in, the system keypad would randomly beep 2x until someone pressed any keys on the pad. It stopped for a while and has started beeping randomly again, but more frequently. It seems to go off a few times throughout the day, not at any regular intervals, but annoying enough to want to rip it out of the wall (which may be my next step). Again, pressing some of the keys seems to satisfy it for a short time. There are no manuals or instructions for the system and nothing on the pad to provide any advice.
Are home security systems really effective? We are having a home security system installed tomorrow...I'm wondering if they are really effective? Do they really deter burglars? Should I feel 100% safe when I go to bed with my alarm on?
is it possible for a wireless home security system to cause interference with other remote controls? recently had a security system put on my home which uses wireless sensors. in less than a week, my remote controls for my digital cable box and tv are not working as they should. I have to be about a foot or so away from the cable box for it to work and when it does it only works for a few seconds. Replaced cable box remote with a new one and still the same thing. any help would be greatly appreciated on what to do or who to call.
How to make a home security electrical circuit.? Hi, i'm trying to figure how to make a home security circuit. I can't figure how to make a buzzer go off if a door/window is opened. Am i right in thinking i'm going to need a parallel circuit with with 2 resistors with a higher resistor above the door (higher resistor meaning with more resistance) and a lower resistor on the door for when the door's closed. Thanks
How do I set up home security cameras that I can view over the web? I travel a lot and work away from home a great deal. I would like to set up a security system that I can monitor from the internet. I will need 4 cameras and one will have to have be able to focus on objects 150' away. The other three cameras will have to be able to focus from 0 to 50'. Any information on the set up, cost and availability of the equipment would be appreciated.
Do anybody have experience with the required wireless equipment update by home security monitoring company? I subscribed to monitoring service with a Home Security Monitoring company. I have wireless security equipment installed. Recently they told me that the government require them to replace the analog radio tower system with digital radio tower system. This results in I need to replace my wireless security equipment as well, otherwise it won't be able to connect to the new radio tower. They charged me $100 for that. Since I'm still in a contract with them, I think I shouldn't pay that $100. So, do anybody have experience in this matter? Is the new regulation for real? Do the customers really have to pay for that required upgrade by the government regulation even when they're still in a contract? Thanks! I appreciate any inputs.
Can someone tell me what to buy so I can set up a home security camera? I want to set up a home security camera that is motion sensitive to record video when it detects motion and record the video on my home PC. I need to know what to buy exactly, I dont' think I have a video recording card. Any brand names that are good would help and where to buy them.
Can anyone recommend a No Contracts home security system? I am looking for a no contracts apartment home security system. Theres only one entrance to our apartment as we're on level 2, so the door is the one place that needs covering; I'm looking for something that will make a LOUD noise when the door is opened after I have set the alarm to 'on'. This may take the form of a laser beam or something similar? I do have a cat - if she is likely to set it off at night, its not a problem to keep her away in the bathroom, but pls can you state whether the cat would/wouldn't set the alarm off. Thanks!!!
Are wireless home security alarms any good? I am interested in installing a wireless home security alarm as they are easier to install than wired. Are they any good? Which are the best makes? Any negatives to be aware of?
Does light trigger the PIR sensor for a Yale home security alarm? Hi there, I have a Yale home security system. If I was to set up some light switches that turn on and off automatically at certain times, whilst the alarm is armed, does the alarm PIR sensors pick up the light turning on all of a sudden out of darkness? Or do the sensors only detect movement in solid objects?
Know of any good home security systems? I need some advice about home security systems? I want to buy one that turns on the lights and makes a loud reaction and calls the police when an intruder breaks in. My partner found one that charges you $19.00 a month to call the police. I know that there has to be one that calls them for free. If you know of any please provide links. Thanks
OnStar home security system - can they listen in without you knowing? On a GE system home security system panel, which uses OnStar, can the security system or anyone else "listen in" to your home without you knowing it? I know , I sound paranoid, but I have no experience with OnStar or anything like it and the salesman said that when the alarm is tripped the operator will be able to hear basically anyone in my house. I'm just wondering if it's possible for anyone at the security company (which I'm afraid isn't the most reputable) or some type of "hacker" could listen in to my home without the alarm indicating this or without there being any other indication.
Is Platinum Protection, (home security), a legitimate company? If so, why do they use “hard” sale tactics? When I got home from work tonight, my family was being given a high pressure sales pitch from a Platinum Protection guy. The salesman was in his early 20's and said he was from Idaho and was just visiting our area to sale this wonderful home security system. If we display THEIR sign in our front yard for 3 years then EVERYTHING would be free, well except for the fee of ONLY $1.42 per day. He claimed that "Our Company doesn't even want to charge for the service, but the State makes us." I listened for a few minutes, and was disgusted with his sales spiel. I told him that we weren’t interested and that he needed to leave my home. He ignored me and kept talking to my wife. I again told him to leave my home. He then brought out his purchase order and said if my wife would just sign we could have the system installed tonight. I told the jerk, you can leave some information with us, but we will need to consider this for a few days. He was appalled, --cont. and insisted we had to sign tonight. I told him No. Now get out of my house. He again turned to my wife, asking her to sign. At this point, I said to him, Do I call the Police or pull out my shotgun to get you to leave? He left. I'm still fuming over his refusal to leave my home when told to. So, does anyone know if Platinum Protection is a legitimate company? After my experience, I won't deal with them. That high pressure makes me think they are not legimate. Anyone know about this company or dealt with them? 10 Points to the one who can give me information on this particular company!!
Is there a home security system that uses broadband rather than VOIP? We currently have Brink's security system and pay Comcast for a VOIP line for the security system to use. We don't use that line for anything else and I feel that it is a waste of money. Is there any types of home security system that works through broadband or wi-fi? Thanks.
How Safe Are Wireless Home Security Systems? Are wireless home security systems safe? Info from the Brickhouse Security say "Wireless Home Security Systems are fully wireless and have built-in power supplies; even if the phone, power and Internet connections are down, your Wireless Home Security System will continue to monitor and protect your property. This feature will come in handy if an intruder cuts the power and phone lines, or there is a blackout and burglars are on the prowl." Does this mean that the system has its own cell-phone built-in or uses a satellite so it could notify the PD and if so doesn't a burglar need nothing but a signal disrupter? No I'm not a burglar, just curious in how it works and how safe it really is. We all know if you have an alarm set to the phone-line someone can cut the lines, if you have digital phone someone can just turn the power off your house, or do both. So can a disrupter knock out the system signals? The real question is, "How safe are any Home Security Systems?"
Is Firstline home security system any good? How to they compare to ADT or Brinks? I had a sales rep offer me free installation and equipment. He said there was no upfront cost, only paying the monthly payment. I was quoted $39 a month plus tax which comes to about $44 a month. I live in a townhome and was told I would be able to get at least 10% off my personal property insurance because of the home security. Does this sound like a good deal? How's the quality of Firstline compared to ADT or Brinks? Are they reliable. I'm located in Minnesota and seem not to have a local office. Should I be worried if something were to happen with no technicans to come fix it asap?
