What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.
VOIP service and home security alarms? My home security alarm monitoring service does not work anymore after I got VOIP service from vonage. I think the analog dialler in the alarm system is the culprit. Any ideas on how to make it work? I don't want to get another line from AT&T just for this (the switch to VOIP was to save some $$)

Installing a home security system that has door sensors and a motion senor inside my ultilty van that is full of equipment. Home security alarm question? Any pros out there? Last night while we were away from home, the security alarm went off in one room of our home. The alarm company said motion was detected in a room - but not at the doors, windows etc. When we returned this morning, nothing was disturbed and there was no evidence anyone had been in the room or anyplace else in the house. Does anyone out there have any ideas what could have caused this? I am a little spooked and would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. Any professionals out there with any ideas? Please no jokes about ghosts etc. - serious answers only. Thanks!
home security? We live in Australia. You arent allowed to keep guns for protection. recently we had in our suburb a home invasion with a machete and sawn off shotgun. they havent caught the people. We have an alarm system but cant use it because of the cats. I get a bit scared sometimes because I feel we don't have enough security if someone came with a gun. We are thinking of installing a sensor light but are there any other suggestions to make your home safer?
Are wireless home security alarms any good? I am interested in installing a wireless home security alarm as they are easier to install than wired. Are they any good? Which are the best makes? Any negatives to be aware of?
Anyone ever purchased their own home security system (burglar alarms, etc)? It is SO expensive to purchase equipment and then pay a company to monitor your home every month. I've seen some items on EBAY that may work, and there were some other websites selling electronic home security systems, but I had never heard of them before and have no idea whether they are legit. If you have your own system, would you please let me know where you bought it, how much you paid for it, and whether you are pleased with it or not? Thanks!

Home security alarm system??? HOW TO INSTALL A CHEAP HOME SECURITY SYSTEM 1. Go to a secondhand store and buy a pair of men's used work boots, size 14-16. 2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns and Ammo and NRA magazines. 3. Put a giant dog dish next to the boots and magazines. 4. Leave a note on your door that reads: "Hey Bubba: Big Mike, Slim, Tiny and I went for more ammo. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the Pit bulls. They attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up pretty bad. I don't think Killer took part in it, but I locked all four of them in the house. Better wait outside”

home alarm systems? What is the point of having a home security alarm system, all a thief would have to do is cut the outside telephone line and than when it triggers the alarm company would not get notified, and no police would respond.
Can anyone recommend a No Contracts home security system? I am looking for a no contracts apartment home security system. Theres only one entrance to our apartment as we're on level 2, so the door is the one place that needs covering; I'm looking for something that will make a LOUD noise when the door is opened after I have set the alarm to 'on'. This may take the form of a laser beam or something similar? I do have a cat - if she is likely to set it off at night, its not a problem to keep her away in the bathroom, but pls can you state whether the cat would/wouldn't set the alarm off. Thanks!!!
Home security alarm... make them loud Home securtity Burglar alarms... Can i convert a smoke alarm to work as one, or how do i make a really loud one lol.. Im in the process of moving home and the neighbours don't seem 100% lol.. does anyone know how i can convert a smoke alarm to work as one, i thought of this because they are pretty damn loud. so if not I'd like to build my own cause i love projects and learning (and im cheap lol), I have looked online but they all seem to be using 1.5V batteries which, to be honest isn't going to deter anyone! I have got a precious sound system and its the main reason i want the alarm system, which is really loud, and if i could somehow use that as an output, that would be even better! ?
OnStar home security system - can they listen in without you knowing? On a GE system home security system panel, which uses OnStar, can the security system or anyone else "listen in" to your home without you knowing it? I know , I sound paranoid, but I have no experience with OnStar or anything like it and the salesman said that when the alarm is tripped the operator will be able to hear basically anyone in my house. I'm just wondering if it's possible for anyone at the security company (which I'm afraid isn't the most reputable) or some type of "hacker" could listen in to my home without the alarm indicating this or without there being any other indication.

I am getting a home secuity system. Should i display my security stickers? I saw on tv one day , that you should not display your home security stickers. This would enable the theft / robber to familiarize /master your alarm system <brinks, adt, etc...> They might be able to get some default codes. and overide your house alarm... What do you think? Do you display your house alarm stickers? Thanks!
Security Alarms for homes need a $20 permit a year, now? Our city has decided to begin charging everyone with a security system, a $20 permit fee. Of course, we already pay for the system to be put in by a local company, and then pay that local company money every month to have it be working. I cannot see how this will help keep crime down in our city. People have to apply for a permit, whether it is a business or a residence, get approved, and then, get to pay the local company each month as well. The city seems to be helping crime by doing this. What do you think about this? Already, there are expensive charges for false alams........up to $400 for the alarm going off when no one is in the home (supposedly) to set it off! I would say that false alarms are really well covered. I've had my system for over ten years and this is just not reasonable to me.
How do I set the code on my home security system? I purchased a home that has a security system installed. It has motion sensors in some rooms, and door sensors on every exterior door. I know it is functional as I see it respond to the various sensors, but do not know the code to arm it. The previous owner's disconnected the service to the company that calls the police and forgot the code. I just want to use it as a passive system that sounds the alarm when breached, but cannot arm it without the code. Any guesses on how i can set it? The manufacturer of the alarm is no longer in business, but is Apollo Security.
What is the best value Home Alarm / Security System? We want to install a good alarm/intercom system in our new home and have been quoted on a Bosch and Crow unit. Is there any hige differences in these units? Does any one know which one is better value for money? Is there any thing in the same price range which is better?
What is the most effective home security? We are going to be buying a house this year and are going to have a security system installed. Which is the best company or type of alarm? I have seen the coating for windows that makes them almost impossible to break through, how much does it cost and does it really work? Any suggestions on home security will be appreciated. We will be getting an English bulldog and have 2 cats so motion detectors inside are out.
Could you recommend a home security system? I have been looking at ADT, Alarm Force, and Magen for Toronto. I want the two way voice monitoring as well as smoke detector monitoring. Alarm Force seems to be the best choice. Does someone have a bad/good experience to share about any of these home security systems?
How much for a good home security system? What do I need for a basic home security system. I don't want anything elaborate as I live in a "safe" area. I want something like a remote operated button that my elderly mom can push in an event someone breaks in. A loud alarm that will go off both inside and outside to "scare" any robbers and alert her neighbors.
Are home security systems really effective? We are having a home security system installed tomorrow...I'm wondering if they are really effective? Do they really deter burglars? Should I feel 100% safe when I go to bed with my alarm on?
