How do you take off a security tag without going back to the store? I bought a pair of Nike sweatpants & the dumb ass lady forgot to take the security tag off. I just noticed it when I was taking my stuff out of the bag & was wondering if there was any way to take it off at home? It is the skinny rectangular plastic kind with a round, about the size of a quarter, on the opposite side with the pin in it. I think at the store they use a magnetic thing to take them off, but if anyone knows how I could take it off from home I would be greatly appreciative. & I don't want to cut around it to get it off. The least amount of damage possible would be ideal. Thanks. What about using a pair of wire cutters to cut at the little metal pin? That was a good suggestion. Thanks
How do I restore an OnQ home automation and security system after the RAM was cleared? I would like to know how to restore a configured home automation and security system. The system combines a programmable security system made by OnQ and controlled lights, electrical hardware, and outlets made by X-10. The system has 2 collections of stored user settings: EEPROM and RAM. Among other things, the RAM keeps track of the current date and time, as well as the event log of tripped sensors and user code entries. Other things, such as user codes, device and code names, security and phone dialing settings, as well as all customized programs and buttons remain intact when the RAM is reset. When the RAM is cleared, more configuration settings than just the items mentioned above are lost. The system is currently unable to control most (but not all) of the lights and other electronics. They can no longer be turned on or off through programs or by manually initiating a command on the door entry panel. I need to determine what specific settings were lost when the RAM was cleared.

Wondering about Security and Loss Prevention Careers? I am almost a senior in college majoring in criminal justice. I have been applying to retail stores (Home Depot, Roundy's, and a few others) for loss prevention positions. I also have applied multiple places for security positions. My problem is I'm not having much luck. Anyone who works in these positions, what are your qualifications? I have no experience in it but I am in school and you have to start somewhere. Someone please enlighten me on whats going on. Im located in Milwaukee, WI if that matters.
How safe is a home security safe? I was thinking of buying a home safe to put money, stock certificates, jewellery, documents, etc. because my safety deposit box at the bank is just too small and hard to access and I don't store things like money or passports in it because I can't access it when I want to. So is a home safe really that safe? If someone did break into my home and find the safe how long would it take for them to open it? Is there anything I should look for in a safe? What's the least amount I should spend? I don't want to have some kind of fancy Fort Knox grade safe. I just want something were if a burglar broke in, they wouldn't be able to get at anything in the safe before they get caught. I would bolt it to the wall/floor...I just don't know where yet, as it has to be accessible by me too. A waterproof safe is not much of a need, I would probably place it on the second floor of my house, and I live at the top of a hill were it never floods. I noticed theres quite a bit of a price difference between just a security safe and a fire safe, compared to one that has both. Maybe I should buy a security safe and put a cheaper fire proof box inside?
Home (Outdoor) Network Security Camera Recommendations? I'm looking for a network security camera that I can put on the front porch (out of the rain/snow, but not out of the cold!). It needs to meet the following critera: 1) Can take HIGH RES pictures - I need to be able to actually SEE who was there, and identify them in court, for example. 2) It must be able to take pictures when it senses motion. 3) As there is lighting on the porch, night vision isn't required, but a low-light feature might be helpful. 4) It needs to store the pics centrally on a local server via ethernet, it case someone tries to damage it. Lastly 5) It has to be "home affordable" - I've found this camera for $3000, now I need a home version. I've looked everywhere, and all recommendations had horrbile reviews. 3 out of 5 stars at best. HELP ME OUT!!! ..................
Do you know which security lock boxes are the best to store video games (Gamecube, XBox (360), PS2)? I have my newphew and my brother who plays video games. Last time about 3 or 4 disappeared from their rooms because it was stolen. Some were real good games. My mom have a file cabinet to put their video games in there. But somehow, someone jamed the file cabinet lock and caused each game stolen. My mom thinks that it must be someone who is not living in my home. Now, my brother's GameCube wireless controller is gone the file cabinet lock is useless. I tried to look for a security box with a tough lock for storing video games but, I'm having a tough time and still looking for it. If you or anyone could find a best security lock (whether expensive or not)on the internet. I really hate thieves who steals video games because of their jealous and they couldn't afford it to buy on their own. Video games are expensive these days. Thank you!
What should you do when a big-named store rips you off? Yesterday my boyfriend and I bought a Sony Playstation 2 from a reputable store (in Canada). The package was to include the playstation, a memory card, a contoller, and the adaptors. We paid full price. When we got home and started to set it up, we found that it was used, the controller was missing and the adaptors were not only the wrong ones but were also used. When we went back to the store today to get a refund, they refused. They even went as far as accusing us of stealing the controller and adaptors and replacing them with the others. They refused to give us the name of the store manager and proceeded to call security on us. We were calm and would have settled for an exchange but not now. All we want now is our money back so we can go somewhere else to buy a PS2 for our son's birthday but they won't give it back. They followed us out of the store and everyone in the store was watching, I was mortified! What should we do? Isn't what their doing illegal or something? Anyone know?
How do you remove a security ink tag from clothing? I bought a sweatshirt from my college bookstore during a visit last week. I'm back home now (far away from the school) and noticed the security ink tag still on the hood. Can't go back to the store and have them remove it, what can I do?
How do I build a break beam sensor? It's supposed to be similar to the sensor used in home security or the buzzers on convenience store doors. We have 10 ohm resistor connected to a brite LED on one circuit board, and a 1k resistor connected to a CdS photocell on the other. This setup gave a signal when connected to an oscilloscope. Now we can't figure out how to connect the CdS cell to a buzzer.
New DIY wireless security system for your home.? How to install a wireless security system: Go to a second-hand store, buy a pair of men's used work boots ... a really big pair. Put them outside your front door on top of a copy of Guns and Ammo magazine. Put a dog dish beside it ... a really big dish. Leave a note on your front door that says something like this: "Bubba, Big Mike and I have gone to get more ammunition - back in 30 minutes. Don't disturb the pit bulls, they've just been wormed."
How to remove security tag from clothing? I went back home recently, which is in another state, and my MIL bought my kids some clothing. Well, today when I went to put on one of the outfits, I noticed that the security tag is still attached to one of the outfits. How should I go about getting this removed? Can I do it myself or should I just send it back to my MIL to take back to the store? I am sure she didnt keep the receipt.
Is it common for the supervisor to ask for ur social security number after u fill out a job application? I filled out my social security number on my job application (via computer) in the store. Then afterwards, the supervisor came out and asked me for my social security number. I thot it was normal protocol at the time so I gave it to him. But now that I'm home, I realize that... Isn't it weird for him to ask me that if I already wrote it on the job app? I meant to say that I typed the numbers into the computer, not write. He asked me to write them down for him.

Home Depot, Forced to Provide Day Labor Facilities in Some Cities, Seeks Federal Shield Law? WASHINGTON — The Home Depot is tired of being forced by local governments to accommodate the day laborers who turn up in its store parking lots seeking construction work. So the Georgia-based company turned to Congress for help. The Senate could respond this week by attaching language to the immigration bill that would prohibit city councils from requiring home improvement stores to pay for shelters or other services to help maintain orderly day labor sites. The amendment, sponsored by Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., is designed to curtail a practice in the California communities of Mountain View and Burbank, where city councils recently have forced Home Depot to build facilities for day laborers onsite or elsewhere, hire security staff and offer bathrooms in order to get the permits necessary for its operations. Local governments in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other cities, including in Illinois and Washington, D.C., have imposed or are considering similar measures. The local mandates, Isakson says, are a costly intrusion for home improvement stores. Services for day laborers, he said in an interview, should be the responsibility of local governments, and forcing specific companies to provide services as a condition of obtaining permits amounts to "extortion." *************** So, what do you think of what's happening here?
Work at home ideas for someone who has a severe back condition? I have a back condition that keeps me from working a "regular" job. I need to be near a bed or couch to lay down when the pain gets too severe. I've had recent back surgery, but still having pain. I was wondering if there were any good work at home ideas where I could still be a productive member of society. My other alternative is to go on Social Security Disability. I don't want to do that. My skills are: Very skilled with computer hardware and software. I know J2SE (Java) extremely well (5 years on the job experience). Trying to learn J2EE. Very skilled at auto repair (Associates degree from tech college and 2 years experience). Definitely NOT a people person. I definitely prefer working with my hands or with a computer. I can not stand for very long at all, sitting is easier, but still hard. I can sit for maybe an hour or so, then I have to take a break. Opened up a web store briefly but since I have no income, it was difficult to support fees, etc. Wow, a lot of these are great ideas. I've stared at this for an hour. I'm going to have to put it to vote, I can't decide!

My pants still have the security tag on them? Yes, I paid for them, got them home, and tossed the receipt because I was not going to return them. A few weeks later as I was hanging them up I discovered the security tag on the leg. How do I get it off without trying to bring it back to the store?

How can I store files securely on our network, and allow them to be accessed by people not on the network? I have a number of work related files, which are confidential (hence the security issue) and on my work computer. They are on a shared drive which can be accessed by certain others on the network. I want to allow some other people who are not on the network to access these files too, and I want to be able to access them from home. Is there a totally secured way to do this? I don't want to host them on the internet. I've heard a little about VPNs and FTP Servers being a good route. Any suggestions greatfully received. ~essentialcandi~
What should a person do when they are confronted with an apparent case of a battered woman? My wife came home from the grocery store in tears because the lady and child behind her (covering her face) suddenly said "You think you have problems, look at this". She revealed a badly battered, blackened chin, then covered up again. My wife asked the store clerk to call security and was told there was no security. She saw the lady, child and a guy get into their car and drive off. Facts: She saw the bruising. She didn't witness any mistreatment at the store. The woman didn't ask for help. What should my wife have done, if anything?
How do I remove a security tag from a jacket I bought? I bought a jacket last weekend but the cashier forgot to take the security tag thing off of it. It is supposed to be one of the blow-up ink type of ones. Is there a way to remove it at home? I know I can just take it back and get it removed, but the store is pretty far and I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Airport security help? I am going to a fish store this weekend to buy cheap aquarium fish and wanted to know how I can get the fish back home with me. I don't want to check the fish bag because we all know how those bags are handled. Do you think that I can get an official paper from the store and try to get the fish through security? I think if they take my fish away, they are committing animal cruelty by throwing them away. What should I do?
home theater wiring? I am constructing my new house. The "professtional" guy from Home Theater store would charge me $500 for cable purchase and $1000 for installation of the wires. At the same time, a guy from the security system firm was here to estimate and stated that he is able to install the home theater wiring by charging about 1 hour rate of the labor if we are able to purchase the cable ourselves. Anyone can tell me what wouold be the differnces to have these two kinds of professional installing the home theater wiring.

Not wanting to drive back to the store an hour away, I tried removing it on my own and damaged the shirt. Do you think I can morally exchange this shirt for an undamaged one? They left the tag in, I payed for a wearable shirt and left with one I could not use. Now I am left with a damaged, yet wearable shirt. What should I do?

Should Home Depot be forced to provide illegals with: drinking water, bathrooms, tables, seating, trashcans ? LOS ANGELES -- Big-box, home-improvement stores in Los Angeles will have to set aside space for day laborers under an ordinance passed by the City Council on Wednesday. When the ordinance takes effect -- the mayor has to sign it, and most city laws take effect 30 days afterward -- it will apply to stores such as The Home Depot that have 100,000 square feet or more, or any structure where 250,000 square feet or more of warehouse floor area is added. The shelters must be easily accessible and include drinking water, bathrooms, tables, seating and trashcans. The stores may be required to work with Los Angeles police in developing a security plan, according to the unanimous vote by the 15-member lawmaking body http://www.knbc.com/news/17183208/detail.html What madness is this?

Did the mall security have the right to hold us when we were proven innocent.? One day, me and a friend from school went to the mall. We did not have school that day, but we had a meeting for a club we are in, so we were in our uniforms. The meeting was over at 9:45 and we were planning to go home and change first. But then we realized that mall opens at 10:00. We never been to the mall when it opens, and we were always curious on how empty the mall is when it opens. So we headed for the mall. We got there and it was awesome, there was nobody there. We went to some stores and got something to eat. At about 11:00, we were planning to go home. But then a mall security guard saw us. He asked why we weren't at school. We explained we had none. Then he questioned why we had uniforms and called it a likely story. He then handcuffed us and took us in the back. We were led to a small 6' x 8' cell. He put us both in there with our handcuffs still on behind our backs. He said he'd have to check out some things. He came back and said that he called around And found out that we were telling the truth and didn’t have school. But he said that we could not leave as we were minors and it was part of the mall policy. One parent could check us both out. My dad was in Europe for business and my mom was in Chicago for a training class, she wouldn’t be home until 7. Her parents were both in town, but could not just leave work. The earliest they could get there was 5. So me and my friend stayed handcuffed behind our back in our uniforms for doing nothing wrong in a small mall security holding room on a day off school. Her parents came and checked us out. But why were we not allowed to leave if we were innocent? So what if we are minors, we did absolutely nothing wrong! Who came up with this policy? And even if we did have to stay in the small holding room, did they really have to keep the handcuffs on? Is this some safety measure?
