Home (Outdoor) Network Security Camera Recommendations? I'm looking for a network security camera that I can put on the front porch (out of the rain/snow, but not out of the cold!). It needs to meet the following critera: 1) Can take HIGH RES pictures - I need to be able to actually SEE who was there, and identify them in court, for example. 2) It must be able to take pictures when it senses motion. 3) As there is lighting on the porch, night vision isn't required, but a low-light feature might be helpful. 4) It needs to store the pics centrally on a local server via ethernet, it case someone tries to damage it. Lastly 5) It has to be "home affordable" - I've found this camera for $3000, now I need a home version. I've looked everywhere, and all recommendations had horrbile reviews. 3 out of 5 stars at best. HELP ME OUT!!! ..................

What security measures are reaslistically required for a home wireless network? It's mainly just to stop people hijacking our broadband internet connection, we live on a main road so it's very unlikely that anyone will be snooping on the street from their car. One just never knows what the neighbours get up to behind their doors! So let's have some details - WEP, passwords, etc. What's effective and what's not? WEP is the only security protocol listed on my wireless router, but surely that's better than nothing?
Is MAC address filtering adequate network security? I don't know why, but after switching ISPs, my internet connection seems to grind to a halt intermittently on my Macbook Pro laptop. After I deactivated the WPA security mode, it went back to normal. When I tried setting up WEP encryption, I couldn't even connect to my (Belkin) router (it said password incorrect, when I entered the correct password. Now I have no security mode enabled and I am just using MAC address filtering with my laptop. Will this be an adequate security setup for my home network?
How do I setup a new computer with an existing security-enabled home network? I couldn't seem to configure my new computer to get an Internet connection like all the other computers in my home network. I already have the WEP key but it doesn't seem to work. My new computer runs on Vista, and the other computers at home that have Internet connection run on XP. I've looked on a few other websites and couldn't seem to find the solution specific to my problem. Any ideas you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! First of all, I would like to say thanks to all those who shared their thoughts and worked within the info that I provided earlier. For those who need to get additional info, the router for the home network is a Westell Model 2200. The new computer has a Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter. There is a 26-character alphanumeric code that I enter when I try to manually connect to the Internet (is that the WEP key?), but sometimes, when I try to make a connection, the system doesn't even ask me to enter this code.

how do i port forward my router and still remain the security within my home network? Hello, I am a 16 year-old wishing to expand on my internet tests, experiments and such... I currently went as far as 3 websites, played with visual studio, and now I wish to run a server accessable though our internet ip, but I would require to portforward and my dad and I would like to keep the security over our private network... I would very much appreciate a link to a free anti-hacker program or whatever I must aquire to keep high-end security and still run a server... the server will be hosted on a computer that I plan to dedicate to only running the server, but we have atleast 6 other computers using our internet, and we cannot afford to have any of them hacked or get a virus from this project I intend to do, so please help as much as you can. I greatly appreciate it, and I hope that after my 8-9 years of learning all about the computer gets to pass this point within the year, and expand into more advanced server testing such as learning how to run servers on various ports... i don't need to know how to port forward... i know that... i need internet security to keep my computers and private network safe from internet hackers

Wireless Home Networking Security? My DSL cable goes directly from the wall to the modem, then to the router! I have an aircard in my laptop and I have wireless adapter for my xbox. My question is, is it possible to make my network secure like I have it set up? I am thinking not because there is nothing controlling the router... Or do I need to run the DSL cable from the wall to the modem to a DESKTOP COMPUTER THEN TO THE ROUTER! Im thinking that is the way I have to do this to set up a secure network so that others cant piggyback on my connection... I really had rather do it the way I have it set up, but am wondering from yall if I can! Thanks! What does "you just need to add security..." mean?!?! I dont know what I need and how to hook it up? The "..." is what I need! :) THANKS FULLERFYEDS! That worked!!! Im all secured now!!

Network Security?? I have a home network that is connected to my office network. What steps can I take to check the security on my home network? How can I beef up the security I have now?
How can I transfer a ton of data over a network without setting up a home network? There are multiple computers on a network, however they're all directly connected to the router. Basically there the Internet->Modem->Router->Direct connections to multiple computers. I can see the multiple computers via the DHCP table on the router (192.168.1.1), and I know for sure if one computer is running some server software (Apache for example), then the other computers can access it just fine by typing in the internal IP address (192.168.1.x), and I'm pretty sure port forwarding works fine. Most computers run Windows XP, however the computer that has the ton of data and the computer that will get the ton of data both run XP. And I don't want to set up a home network, I just need a direct connection. I'm thinking there's possibly some server software where when someone connects to it, they can get the data. Either way, what should I do to transfer the (at least, probably much more) 2gb of data? I can't burn cd/dvd's. The network is small and secure, so security is not an issue.
how do i make my wireless network at home secure? I have a wireless network at home. the problem with it is that it is not secure and other people might "piggyback" inmy connection. Howe do I set up network security (ecryption, or at least a password). PLS advise Thanks

Is there any way to make your home network act as a proxy server? I have a netgear WGR614 v6 wireless router and I was wondering if it would be possible to connect to it from another computer to use my internet connection. Basically make my home network a proxy. I would rather not have to connect to my computer to do it. I have already used remote desktop connection to basically do this, but that was rediculously slow, and a serious security risk. So is it possible and how might i do it? I just have to ask, Anthony, how could it possibly be illegal to use your home network as a proxy? It might be against some rules at school, but illegal? I only want to do this because my school just made it against the rules to access your email, no matter what you use it for. If i wanted to hide something why in the world would I want to use my home network which would be easily traceable to me?
How do I create a Home Network for file sharing? I have an XP media desktop and I would like to make a home network for file sharing with my new Vista Laptop. I have DSL and the internet works fine, I have never made a home network before and I'm having issues with connecting the two computers. I created the network on the Vista laptop, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the two computers connected. I'm doing a "VPN" (Virtual private network) connection and I had to put in the IP addresses which are simular because they are on DSL and the laptop connects wirelessly to the desktop's internet. Everytime I try to connect it says: ERROR 800: "Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection" ??? I have no idea what I'm doing so if anyone can give me some really detailed instructions that would be fantastic.

Can anyone answer a question regarding network security? I have a Netgear 8.11 G router. I am running an unsecured network at my home through Comcast. I've changed the user name and password on my address page but then I am locked out of my own network. I have to plug directly into the LAN to get connected into wireless by changing the user names back back to the default which leaves me unsecured again. Also, how can I know if someone is using my network? Could this be related to my other problem of having to reset my cable modem practically every day?
