24 hour police / security protection at home? i was just wondering how many people it would take to give me round the clock security while at my home. This is only HYPOTHETICAL i dont need security, but if i did how could it be done? This is my situation: A semi detached house in a small town. The house has a garden in front and back. I was thinking that there could be: 1. Outer perimeter security. That is like 3 miles from where I live. In the town centre there could be maybe 4 patrol units with 2 officers in each car - just randomnly checking suspicious things. 2. Inner perimeter security. The main road leading to my house is patrolled and roadblocked at both ends. There is a portacabin at the top and at the bottom with 5 resident officers in each. 3. Home security. There are four armed officers patrolling my road and two helicopters overhaead staffed by two officers with parachutes in case of an attack on me. 4. There are four officers in my garden and one outside the front door and four out in front as well as a patrol portacabin housing people in front the house. 5. I have two personal body guards inside my house and two armed officers on the flat roof outside my bedroom. 6. There are security cameras outside the perimeter and the security centre is manned by 10 operatives. How many people would it take for all of this security to protect me?? What would be the cost of all this?
How much does a home security system installer make? My husband is thinking of using his trade skills as a home security installer for like ADT or Protection One or something but we wanna know approximately how much they make....
Which Home Security Company do you prefer? What does it cost you? I need to get a home security system put in. Actually we have one, it's just not hooked up. It's from a previous owner. Which one do you like, and how much does it run you a month? Protection One Brinks ADT What others are out there that you know of and the cost? Thank you for your help. :-) Wasn't sure what catagory to put this question in. So if I put it in the wrong place, sorry.
Do you know anything about home security systems? We are thinking about getting one for our house. I called ADT and they charge $630 for the installation alone! Protection One, on the other hand, only charges about $150. What's the difference? Is the security system worth the money? Is it a hassle? Etc?
Which one would you choose? For your home protection, which one of the three would you choose, a home security alarm, a mean and trained dog or a gun?
Tips on Protecting my home?? Hi all - I was checking around the net for some home security repair/tips after my friend's place was broken into - i only found one semi-helpful site: www.discovery.com/allstate. Does anyone else have any suggestions for finding home protection information? Thanks.
Why Did they do this (home security)? My parents got an Alarm system From APX its a wireless LYNX system but in my house there are 3 doors and 6 windows to protect (on the 1st floor) and on the first floor they put in 3 door sensors and a motion detector and on the 2nd floor just put a glass break sensor in one room and a glass break sensor in another room will this be enough protection? they are normal windows that slide up and down

Britain justice now a thing of the past - murderer of headteacher getting new home and identity? So now it transpires that we, the British taxpayers, will be footing the bill for the killer of headteacher Phillip Lawrence? According to media reports, Learco Chindamo, the culprit, will be getting a new home, new identity, and intensive security protection costing up to ONE MILLION a year. And we'll be paying for it! Do you agree that British justice is a thing of the past? And that Chindamo should have been deported back to Italy? How is it that the judges in other countries manage to interpret the same Human Rights legislation in a more rational way than the lunatics in our British courts? I feel so, so sorry for the family of Phillip Lawrence. NDGBILL - if you'd bothered to read my post properly, you'd note I NEVER mentioned 'revenge'. You brought that up - not me. I merely suggested that something is bloody unfair about the fact that currently in the UK, the guilty have more rights than the victims. Why on earth have you responded so aggressively???!

Please help, my window security walwar protection failed after i uninstalled Norton and downloaded Kasperky!? Ok well, my dad just bought this new anti-virus software or and internet software call Kasperky Internet Security 2009. When i bought my computer it came with a free 60 days trial or norton, so my dad went out and buy a good Internet security and brought home kasperky. When i downloaded kasperky it asked for me to deleted norton before installing Kasperky. I deleted norton and at the bottom of my screen shows a a red shield with an X in it saying, "Window Security". So I clicked on it and i see my firewall was off, spyware and other walwar protection, and my virus protection was off, then i turned it on immediately after seeing it off. I turned on the first 2 but one of them seem to refuse to turn on, "Virus Protection". Is there a problem with it? Please help me. 2) My second question about kasperky is that when ever i scan my computer, how can i delete the virus or w/e they found? Im asking you this because i see no deletion or any other phrase of getting rid of the virus, malware, esc.... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING ME.
Building a home shotgun locking rack? I need to mount and lock a Mossberg 500 12 gauge shotgun in my house. It's more about family safety (have kids) than infallible theft protection ... if someone had plenty of time in the house, I realize anything lagged into the wall studs could by pryed off. But all the locking mount systems for home seem to involve a key. I want a combination (or fingerprint/biometric, which I fear would be too expensive). How about one of the electric locks from a police cruiser? There are many used ones on eBay, without the override key (I guess that's a police proprietary handcuff-style key). They open when energized with 12V current. I was thinking, perhaps one of those collar-style locks mounted on the wall to hold the stock butt to the floor (with floor plate if needed), wired to a cipher keypad that can be programmed for a memorized, tactile combo entry that could accomplished done in the dark. Getting really inventive, I might be able to make that happen with an existing home security system keypad that has unused channels, or could be converted to a "dummy" just for the shotgun (my preferred mounting spot is right below said panel). Am I on to something, or is there something better already available, that does not cost more than my pawn shop gun?
How do I use Norton Internet Security on more than one PC? I bought Norton Internet Security 2008, which allows me to "Protection for up to 3 PCs". I have 3 computer in my home network: 2 desktops, 1 laptop. The product was bought one 1 desktop and I had Norton already installed on the laptop; so it seemed that the laptop was protected "automatically". But, on the second desktop I didn't have Norton installed and therefore I cannot be sure if it's being protected. Can someone please help me with this conundrum?
Why do we forsake freedom for the sake of security? Part 2? Thanks to those that answered my previous question, very good and some great 'Emotional Intelligence' out there. In answer to one of the comments, "Forsaken freedom is the price that we have to pay for our protection. Do you get concerned over paying a few cents more to cover the cost of more secure bottle capping on your over the counter aspirin, milk ?" I would have to say that this does not breach my freedom, certainly it breaches my budget, but not freedom. And for many things the sacrifice of freedom is worth it for cases where the security far outweighs the benefits of the freedom. But many times the question is, is the cost of giving our freedom away for 'WORTH' the security we get in return? If you never cross the road you'll never get hit by a car, but the slim chance of getting hit by the car makes it worth sacrificing the security of home. It seems to me though that we are giving up alot of freedom for a tiny amount of security? True or False?
What's a good home protection gun? Yesterday night at around 11, some guy came into my backyard and tried to rob my house. I have a one of those lights that go on when someone moves around and security cameras all around my house. I have some people renting out a section of my house and thought "Why would they be taking trash out this late?" So now that I saw that the light was on for a while, I opened the blinds and looked out the window. Some white guy in his late 30's or early 40's was standing right there looking out the window. He didn't have a weapon but he said something that I couldn't make out. I called the police and then they caught him next door taking stuff from my neighbor's garage. I went to the police station to identify him and now he's behind bars. I have learned my lesson and now I want a gun for protection. I need something with not a lot of recoil and good stopping power. I want something simple like a revolver. I don't want it to kill and leave a big mess in the house. I have a family and don't want them stuck with an image in their heads. I want a reliable gun that's intimidating.

What feelings is it that I have? Gay, Protection, Security Blanket? Ok, I'll make this explanation of our friendship as possible. But trust me when I say it goes deep... I'm 16 and in grade 11, I have a few friends in the lower grades 7-8 that look up to me and follow me around. One of these kids followed me around everywhere, outside of school as well. Hes 14 and in grade 8 and has alot of life problems, medical as well as depression that forces him to look at everything as bad and down and he hates his life, his parents who try very hard even if he can't see it, they just don't know how to show it. But for along time he only told me his problems and thoughts cause he trusted me, there are many nights I've sat up with him comforting him telling him he'll be fine and hes grown attached to me. As long as I'm there with him, hes always happy and always feels safe and secure... I started having my own problems at home and because I've made such a close bond with this guys family I practically live there. His little sister always follows me around and his older sister I talk to about my problems and we go out to the city and sometimes work together at the church, yes I'm a church goer and want to get into youth work. So... yeah... Now wait for the turning point, I'm sure you've been wondering where it is. But every night something bad happens, I get depressed and so stressed I can't deal with it and when he does, because we've grown attached to each other and a security to make calm us down, he always would hug me only when he was crying because he honestly gets none from anyone else and for someone to get no contact is hard, espically with depression. Then I use to sit by his bed and run my fingers through his hair to get him to sleep because he just couldn't after all the thoughts of sad and depressing things run threw it. But then it got to be more, we both couldn't sleep and once found each other asleep lying on each other, like my head was resting on his and his on my shoulder. I found it soothing, calming... And one night I just slept next to him in bed, nothing more... just sleeping... But we both got to sleep so fast, I've never seen him sleep so easily... Then that just wasn't enough and we got use to hugging each other so much that we would fall asleep in tight, close hugs. I know this seems really gay... nothing else follows and nothing else shall follow, we both have discussed it and we know that we don't think of doing anything sexual with one another, I think of him as my little brother. I look out for him and tell him when hes doing something wrong, even if he gets annoyed with me for it. But we both can't stop just lying next to each other, on one anothers shoulders. I can hold him and and both our depression goes away, like nothings wrong, and we've both said it... if it could stay like that for the rest of our lives. We would never have to worry about anything anymore... but then the more I think about that... the more I fear its turning us gay, I don't want to be gay, lol... but I don't want to loss what we have cause its honestly the only thing I have beside medication to make me feel happy as if there's something to live for. (Not Emo) So please shred some light on this, are we gay? security blankets? habit that could be with anyone? or is it a protection thing we have over each other? (Being the most important thing to each other while we go through these depression problems, because if he died... I would to, nothing else is really keeping me here...) So yeah... long read, sorry about that... I'm use to writing long sermons and speech's... but please give me an answer... Its been resolved, the person didn't post on here but instead talked to me over Yahoo Messenger...
Home foreclosure protection? My question is an all-too-familiar one-my aunt and uncle fell behind on ONE mortgage payment and if they don't pay up they will be out on the street in January. Can you give me a credible website where I can obtain information on what they can do to prevent foreclosure proceedings; including getting an extension on paying the bill or filing for bankruptcy. They're in the Midwestern U.S. and my uncle is on Social Security as well as working part-time (they won't hire 50+ people for good full-time jobs so he had to take early SSI and take what part-time work he could. My aunt works part-time as that is what is available to her. Serious and non-judgmental answers only-it's the Holiday Season.
What to buy myself when home alone? There have been frequent burglaries in my neighborhood for the past few weeks. One of those nights, the house next door was ransacked while I was home alone. I'm looking for advice on what to buy myself for security/protection wise and also entertainment-wise.. for the next time I find myself alone for a week or so Thanks
What's the best breed of dog? my parents want to get a dog for security. my parents only criteria is that it isn't tiny like a poodle but that it doesn't grow very large. we have lots of children and friends constantly come through here (home business) so we'd like a breed that isn't too vicious but still enough to scare away a thief. btw we have bars on the windows and an alarm system so we're not putting the job of home security solely on a dog but we figured it'd be nice to have one as added protection. so I know it's a tall order but what breeds do you have in mind?
Organizing a neighborhood watch...? In two weeks, I plan to hold a community meeting to organize a neighborhood watch program. Our neighborhood has experienced a few break-ins and one attempted break-in as of last night. I will also contact the local police department to come speak at my meeting and talk to people about basic home security. I also plan to check prices of regular deadbolt locks, and the theft proof deadbolts, as well as motion activated lights and window alarms. (To inform the neighbors in case they are interested in spending a few dollars to increase protection). And of course, we are going to organize a neighborhood walking schedule for after dark patrol between 7:30-8. I don't think that is too late to ask someone to patrol and it gives them time to eat dinner first. (Me and my husband will also be walking one or two evenings a week). I don't expect anyone to try and stop a crime in progress, just report one ASAP if they see anything. Has anyone ever organized one of these and do you have any more advice for me about this? Any suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks Michelle. That really stinks that happened to you. I'm not sure about the rest of the neighbors but the neighbors immediately around me want to do something. So I know I already have about 11 people on board. If nothing else, we'll just patrol our own street at the very least. Then if we get more interested people we can expand our street coverage. Hey Joe! Long time, no see! Great to hear from ya!

What is the difference between Norton Anti-Spyware Scan Tool Bar and the Norton Internet Security Program? Let us bear in mind,Internet Security Programs are categorize into two:One is the "Real-Time" protection and the 2nd is the launch/ executable scanning method. Most of the real-time protection are the registered and the licensed versions. The launch/executable scanning method are the freeware personal protection programs. The licensed and registered versions are very effective because aside from updates, you have the immediate customer support online. This suggests that you must have two home computers, whether desktop or notebook.Just in case the one is crippled by a certain virus, worms, spywares or malwares, you can use the other computer to get the online support immediately. This is the reality in computer business. One compay is producing the computer, the other company are producing spywares & adwares that will result to viruses, worms, or malwares in order for them to penetrate your online computer for advertisements,of course much advance &ahead of these anti-things protection programs.
My McAfee Security Centre (part of McAfee Total Protection 2007) has more or less stopped working? Don't know whether this is in the right section for this problem or not but here goes: My McAfee Security Centre (part of McAfee Total Protection 2007) use to work perfectly fine when I had Windows XP SP2 on my laptop. I then upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit Edition. Ever since then it takes about 10 minutes for the Security Centre to load up and when it does everything runs slowly and takes ages to load up. I have been on McAfee Live Technician support and they are about much use as a chocolate fireguard. I have completly uninstalled and re-installed it about 4 times (once was with the proper McAfee clean up program), I have no other Security software on my system and all the Windows ones are turned off. Please, please, please, please, please, please somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this a good reason to increase security on the borders? This is a deadly combination, should Janet and obama be more concerned with border issues because of this? Secret Army Report: Drug Cartels, Terrorists Join Forces to Infiltrate U.S. Friday, June 5, 2009 6:53 PM By: Nat Helms A secret intelligence mission recently conducted along the southern border of the United States found that drug cartels are teaming with terrorists to exploit the numerous vulnerabilities along the sparsely defended 2,000-mile Mexican border. The mission, dubbed Operation Red Zone was conducted in February and March by the Army’s Asymmetrical Warfare Group (AWG). The clandestine intelligence gathering organization is a 350-member “special mission unit” that works to “identify critical threats and enemy and friendly vulnerabilities through global first-hand observations,” the Army says. The group is based at Ft. Meade, Maryland, also home to the National Security Agency. Red Zone investigators discovered numerous alien smuggling and drug trafficking operations along the border. Perpetrators are using “maritime surface craft, semi-submersible watercraft, ultra-light aircraft and possess the capability [to] utilize other potential aerial infiltration techniques to circumvent ground border protection capabilities,” according to Asymmetric Observations Along the U.S.- Mexican Border released May 14 by the Army to federal and state law enforcement agencies. “The AWG served as observers to advise the Border Patrol, Coast Guard and local law enforcement. During the operation AWG personnel were not authorized to enter Mexican territory and none were armed,” Donald Cicotte, spokesman for the AWG at Ft. Meade tells Newsmax. After the mission was completed, AWG personnel prepared a classified report for the Department of Defense. A “cleansed” version, like the one viewed by Newsmax, was sent to civilian law enforcement agencies “Obviously we don’t want to lose control of this [report,]” CiCotte adds. “We obviously don’t want to tell the bad guys what we know.” Operating behind the scenes on the project was Joint Task Force – North (JTF-N), a joint-service command headed by Army Brig. Gen. Sean B. McFarland. The 180-member task force helps local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies plan and coordinate activities to thwart drug cartels, human smugglers, and other emerging threats, JTF-N spokesman Armando Carrasco tells Newsmax. In this instance the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the San Diego area requested assistance identifying new threats and the AWG was recruited, he said. “We don’t have any resources of our own. We don’t have heavy equipment or helicopters. For instance we can’t call up an engineer battalion to build a road. We solicit units from all the services equipped with what we need and asked them for help,” Carrasco said. “We have three JAG attorneys that ensure we are legally authorized to perform the mission. The lawyers spell out in briefings to each unit that they cannot be deployed in a law enforcement role.” Militarty theorists define assymetrical threats as strategies and tactics used by ill-equipped terrorists and criminals to circumvent sophisticated defenses of more powerful governments. Common examples include clandestine cross-border infiltration, smuggling, and defeating sophisticated electronics and optical sensors with simple counter-measures. During the operation, the AWG worked with the Department of Homeland Security and state and local law enforcement in the San Diego area to “observe asymmetric infiltration operations and emerging asymmetric threats.” The Army investigators discovered that drug traffickers and smugglers are employing “exceptional surveillance and counter-surveillance capabilities, robust technical communications capabilities as well as effective marking and signaling techniques to facilitate smuggling of illegal personnel and illicit cargo into the United States,” the report says. Some of the aliens are suspected of being terrorists from Middle Eastern countries sneaking into the country by employing drug smugglers skilled in transporting human cargo into the United States, the report adds. Few of the tactics employed by the border busters appear sinister at first glance. In one example, the AWG reported seeing a woman setting up a road-side tamale stand on the south-side of the primary border fence. Upon investigation it was found that her car was parked pointing toward “known fence breach points” as a signal to border jumpers. Other seemingly innocent activities observed by the intelligence operatives revealed drug trafficking and “alien smuggling spotters” using taxis and other legitimate businesses located on the U.S. side of the border to monitor and report Border Patrol activities to criminals who pay them with drug proceeds. http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/mexico_border_fence/2009/06/05/222148.html There is more to the story but too long to post who

Are personal protection dogs safe as pets? I am looking to get a trained personal protection dog, that is trained to the standard of bite on command. This isn't for status etc, it is for a genuine serious fear of mine and my children's safety. We already have police alarms and lots of additional security on our property but it isn't enough. My youngest child is 5, we have a dog in the home already so the kids are good with dogs. Our dog is a lab though, and although she barks, she also wants to be everyone's best friend. Having telephoned a few companies, all have said they can provide me with a dog, however one would not provide a dog as I am not a trained handler and said he would never put a trained dog in a family environment as you can't get a trained dog safe as a pet. I know all dogs have the capability of being vicious if something triggers that in them, but obviously a trained dog is more dangerous What I am looking for is someone who has trained personal protection/security dogs, or owns a properly trained protection dog themselves and can give me an honest unbiased answer. I feel like its a catch 22, we need something to keep us safe, but would a protection dog be putting my children in danger? Thanks in advance. I don't feel it is necessary to give people the personal details of why I feel the need for a protection dog as I am purely asking for someone who has knowledge of these dogs for their honest opinion..We have moved to a new city, several times, we have very extensive security, provided by the police and other top security companies. It is a very serious situation we live in, and by no means am I being paranoid. A couple of nights ago a neighbour saw 2 men in our back garden, and my dog never alerted us to the intruders. I want to do everything I can to keep my children safe, and a protection dog is now the only way forward I can go having used all other methods. As I stated earlier, I want to know if they are safe as pets too as I don't want a dog that is dangerous to my children.
Can I get a restraining order against my brother? He's been behaving really violently for a while, and when things don't go his way he threatens to hit me (I'm his eldest sister, older by 4 years). He has attacked me before, and while my parents and some of my relatives are aware of it, he doesn't seem to be stopping. I'm not sure if they're just idle threats to make me fear him, and I don't like fearing him (it's a blow to my pride), but the fact that he has attacked me before leaves a shred of fear that doesn't seem to go away no matter how much I try to suppress it. My parents are divorced and I'm currently living with my father along with my brother and younger sister. My father declared that he has washed his hands off our affairs (my brother and I) as I have often complained to him about my brother's behavior and that it is up to us to settle everything ourselves. Since my only protection (at home) is gone, I need something else to protect myself from him, as he seems to be getting bolder. My mother has advised me on this matter before, and said that it was possible to report him for attacking me, as it could be classified as abuse. I'm not sure if getting a restraining order is appropriate given that most would think that it's a little too drastic to be taking this action against a family member, even I think that it's a little too much at times. When he threatens to hit me, I have in turn threatened to report the matter to the police should he do so. While it has prevented him from hitting me up till now, I'm not sure how long it'll take for him to lose his hesitation (or whatever it is that is holding him back from attacking me again) and really carry out his threats. It's fine with me if he's being rude, while I don't like it, at least he's not threatening to hit me, but nowadays it has escalated to him using threats and me barely holding my tongue in fear of his reaction. I have also threatened to sue him in court if he dared to attack me, but what I know is that I do not want either monetary or material compensation. I want protection and security from him, and if possible to protect my sister as well. While he has not attacked her yet, but he has been harassing her (not sexually, it's more like he's bullying her), since she's the less outspoken one out of the both of us, and he has made her cry quite a few times in the past (even though she doted on him as a child and is older than him by two years). In actuality, I'm not quite sure on what I'm supposed to do about this situation. My father is rarely at home, and he doesn't really know about the events of his own household. When he is not away on his business trips, he often doesn't come home till late (reaches home past 11) and he doesn't even bother to find out about the happenings of the house. Any help or suggestions that you can offer will be very much appreciated, but I do not appreciate smart-asses trying to downplay or dismiss my fears as the delusions of a child. I'm only a minor, and may seem as though I'm making things sound as though they're more serious that they really are, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm afraid, and am looking for ways to protect myself. Actually, I should rephrase the question. "Should I get a restraining order against my brother?" If I want to get a restraining order against him, what will I need?
training a dog for protection? ok, i live out in the country and i don't believe in guns cause i have trained muay thai and martial arts all of my life. my wife and kids are sometimes at home when i'm away at work. is it possible that a dog can be trained that he is protective of the family and not to fight like people use them for? i mean want him to be playful and fetch ball or freesbie and etc...but i don't want to fight my dog in any way. i just want one for security in my home. is there any videos or training on how to do so to make this happen? i notice that police use german shepherds but i have seen they use pit bulls too. i think they are just gorgeous! i just want one from birth to grow with my family pretty much.
i have a serious computer security problem? my mother was on ly laptop earlier today and installed a virus protection program called cyber security it told her i had viruses to get her to download it when i didn't. im trying to get rid of it but anytime i go into add or delete programs it tells me its just for evaluating and the delete function is disabled. the problem is it tries to block every website i go to and when i say continue it goes to the home page to have me buy it. does any one know how i can get it off my computer im getting seriously frustrated.
Why are Democrats always putting up road blocks to prevent homeland security? The new Congress takes an old approach to homeland security. Members of Congress head home this week with precious little to show for their months of grandstanding on the Hill. However, as the clock counted down to August recess, lawmakers were able to get one “signature” bill off to the president, an act purporting to implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. Those hoping the bill would provide a clear strategic direction for homeland-security policy will find this “signature” as inscrutable as that of a drunken doctor writing in haste. But the bill does clearly show, however, that the way Congress “does” homeland security has changed significantly under it new Democratic leadership. That’s not to say that everything about the bill is wrong-headed. The so-called 9/11 bill includes several positives, embracing measures that homeland security experts have long advocated. Among these are provisions: Lowering the minimum amount of security grants that Washington must give each state. Unlike most of the bill’s provisions, this one actually was recommended by the 9/11 Commission, which was rightfully concerned that homeland security grants were becoming little more than vehicles for pork-barrel spending projects. This reform will allow the Department of Homeland Security to focus more money on the highest homeland security priorities. Requiring periodic strategic assessments similar to the Defense Department’s Quadrennial Defense Reviews. It makes sense to take time occasionally to review whether what’s being done is actually accomplishing anything useful. Promoting reform and encouraging a modest expansion in the Visa Waiver Program. Efforts to increase opportunities for America’s friends and allies to visit the U.S. while making terrorist travel more difficult are long overdue. Nor did the final bill include every bad idea incorporated in the original bills offered in the House and Senate. For example, bill conferees dropped a measure that would have expanded union rights over the Transportation Safety Administration. The erstwhile “union protection” provisions would have made it virtually impossible for TSA make timely changes in its passenger screening procedure in response to ever-evolving security threats. Unfortunately, the bill does contain a good deal of junk. Some requirements will actually make America less safe, needlessly siphoning time, effort, and resources away from the kind of work that actually thwarts terrorists. Among the key strategic missteps are provisions that: Increase spending based on criteria unrelated to actual security risks. Though they tightened up one state grant program, lawmakers wound up creating new grant programs, beefing up existing (and unfocused) grant programs, and injecting wasteful state minimums into more grant funding formulas. They also adopted a host of earmarks from congressional leadership. In the end, Congress could not resist buying a bigger barrel and stuffing it with even more pork. Require ports and airlines to scan every container entering the United States. While this initiative “polls well,” most security experts find the idea preposterous. The scanning will produce so much data (and poor-quality data at that) that it will bog down rather than inform security operations. By the time anyone dockside will be able to review pictures of, say, a container of sneakers sent from China, odds are the shoes will have already been stocked, sold, and walking around the country for weeks. One measure of how far the bill has missed its strategic mark is how found in how very few of its more than 700 pages of provisions pertains in any way to recommendations actually made by the 9/11 Commission. Inspecting every container of frozen fish, for example, was never suggested in the commission report. How curious that the so-called 9/11 bill can come up with so many frothy original ideas, yet scrupulously avoid so many hard-nosed recommendations from the commission. For instance, whatever happened to the idea of further consolidating the jurisdiction of congressional committees over the Homeland Security Department. The new law studiously ignores this basic housekeeping reform so strenuously sought by the commission. What Congress cobbled together shortly before recess was pretty much standard kitchen-sink legislation — a hodgepodge of measures styled mostly to please various stakeholders and deliver on campaign promises. Some are good, some bad, and some indifferent. This “new” way of doing homeland security looks an awful lot like the traditional way Congress legislates. The contrast with how Congress approached homeland security shortly after 9/11 could not be more striking. In the wake of the attack, legislators purposefully created the Department of Homeland Security, passed the Patriot Act (which has actually helped stop terrorist attacks), and reformed the intelligence community. The post-9/11 congresses governed a nation at war. Until this year. This year, Congress slaps together a mediocre bill, bats it over to the president, and goes on vacation.

What should happen to this Homeland Security official, Is she a traitor? BOSTON - A top Homeland Security official in Boston was accused Friday of repeatedly hiring illegal immigrants to clean her home, even warning one not to leave the country "'cause once you leave, you will never be back." Lorraine Henderson, the regional director of Homeland Security, Customs, and Border Protection, was arrested Friday at her home in Salem. She was charged with harboring an illegal alien and ordered released on $25,000 unsecured bond during an initial appearance in federal court. She was expected to appear in federal court in Boston later Friday on a charge of harboring an illegal alien. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28075408/
Why is AVG not seen by Vista ? I have two computers, one on XP and one on Vista Home, both running AVG Free Virus protection. In Security Centre the XP machine has green light on for Virus Protection and 'more info' says AVG is running and up to date. In Security Centre on the Vista machine it has orange light on and 'more info' says virus protection not recognised and leaves me to manage protection myself. Why the difference ?
How can i put a password for protection onto a basic excel spreadsheet.? its ICT coursework i have made a home accounts package and one thing we have to have is a password for security how do i do it thanks done it xx
Will unions force more businesses to move over seas? In a time when unions are outraged with Democrats for their pro-immigration policies, big labor has launched an unprecedented lobbying campaign to force workers into unions. Labor unions are supposed to protect workers’ rights, yet union bosses want Congress to pass a law that actually robs workers of their democratic right to a private ballot. In March, the House kowtowed to the unions and passed the so-called “Employer Free Choice Act.” Today the battle comes to the floor of the Senate. Union bosses will learn that the Senate isn’t going to roll over so easily. I was a card-carrying member of the AFL-CIO Metal Lather union in my youth, and I understand the role that unions can play. But unionization is increasingly facing organizing challenges. Unions have seen a steady decline in membership, from 16.1 percent in 1990 to 12 percent in 2006. Right now they’re less interested in seriously defending workers’ rights than they are about simply holding onto their power. It seems obvious that big labor wants to rebuild its membership rolls — and its bank account — through a forced unionization process called “card check.” What is card check and why is it so bad? The bill now before Congress would overturn a 72-year law that guarantees workers the right to cast private ballots in union organizing elections. Card check has always been an option, if employers voluntarily choose to recognize a union that way. But this bill mandates the recognition of a labor union as the exclusive employee representative if only 50 percent plus one of the workers signs a card expressing interest in a union. It’s automatic. No discussion, no hearing from both sides on the issue, no election. What about the views of the other 49 percent? It’s very likely they would not even know an election is taking place. Union organizers only have to solicit cards in secret until they achieve a majority. That’s not a free and fair election. By voting in union-organizing elections, you are consulted about a decision that will require you to pay potentially thousands of dollars a year in union dues and may require you to support union actions, including strikes. Yet under this so-called “Employee Free Choice Act,” it is possible for nearly half of the workers to have no voice at all. This isn’t about workers’ rights. This is about intimidation. Consider the pressure you would be under to sign a card if your coworkers asked. Workers and their families can be harassed at home, at church, at the shopping mall. A former union organizer testified before the House Education and Labor Committee that many workers “signed the card simply to get the organizer to leave their home and not harass them further.” Pressure often escalates to include threatening phone calls, vandalism, stalking, and even violence. In one 2004 case, a worker in High Point, North Carolina, who dared to oppose the United Auto Workers’ card check campaign, needed 24-hour security posted at his home. The only protection workers have to exercise their freedom in union elections is the private ballot. A choice made under duress is no choice at all — it’s coercion. A private ballot allows workers to make a decision without the union organizers, coworkers, or the employer looking over their shoulder. An employer wouldn’t know if you voted for the union, and the union wouldn’t know if you voted against the union. Ironically, the bill’s supporters agree that secret ballot elections for unionization are a good thing — in Mexico! In August 2001, eleven cosponsors of the House card-check bill sent a letter to the Mexican government urging the adoption of secret-ballot elections as a basic right for Mexican workers for the very reasons we should protect this right here in America. Go figure. Let’s be very clear that no one is denying the right of workers to organize unions. Unions, in fact, won more than half of the federally supervised organizing elections held in the last year. The right to join a union by secret ballot is time-honored. It is a right I exercised when I chose to be a card-carrying member. But the right to decide by private ballot is fundamental in our democracy. Without it, union organizing is just legal conscription. The Senate must stand up for American workers by defeating this bill.

Which name do you think is best for a Home Alarm company? Just like ADT, Brinks, Monitronics, Firstline, First Defense, American Alarm, Protection One, Northstar have random names, which one do you think would be most marketable in Arizona, and even nationwide for that matter. It would promote Honeywell Technology and have a security sign in the front of homeowner's lawns. Which one would stick in people's heads? You can put Security on the end of the names PROLINK FIRSTLINK FASTLINK QUICKLINK AXIS ALPHALINK ALPHA SECURELINK CYBERLINK EMPIRE CODEBLUE BLUECODE BLUELIGHT (blue lights on signs) And explain why u think your name would be most marketable.

I got threatened by a tenant at my home.? I live in Iowa. One of the tenants that live next to me came over to my house and told me that he was going to kill me. I did nothing to him, the only thing is that my daughter does not want to play with his daughter because she comes over to my house and breaks my daughters stuff. My daughter told her that if she can not respect her stuff then she should stay out of this yard. Her father got mad and came over and threatened me. I called the police and all they did was give him a no trespassing warning. I also wrote my landlord a letter explaining the situation but they have done nothing. I fear for my kids lives as well as mine. I even had to go out and buy security cameras for my families protection. This guy has been charged with terrorism and domestic violence, after he held his wife and kids hostage in their home a few years back. I own my own house, it is paid for and I do not want to move. This is a mobile home park community. What can I do now? I have left it up to the police and I am not going to talk to him to see why he has a problem with me cause when I called the police they told me that if I go any where near them or even speak to him then they said that they were going to throw me in jail.

What is Internet Security and which are best softwares available for this purpose? I am confused about Internet Security. So please guide me with utmost honesty (Please don't fool me because I am naive about Internet Security). I am a housewife (who used to once work as a Foxpro Programmer. But later I quit the job and started taking care of my home and family). So although I am a good foxpro programmer (and not entirely naive about using a PC) I don't know much about internet. Lately, I have started using Internet. Now, I have come to know that viruses, worms, spywares, malaware, adware, etc. can attack my personal computer even if I open my emails. In order to prevent this from happening I should have anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc. installed on my personal computer. I have also been advised to install something termed as 'firewall'. Besides, there are so many products (McAfee Anti-Virus, Norton Anti-Virus, E-SET Safe, Trend Micro, Quick Heal, AVG, Kaspersky, etc.) And if I visit these companies' websites I see they have multiple products that they are manufacturing. For example, I installed AVG Free for home users. But the company also sells a paid version of that Anti-virus software and also selling something termed AVG Internet Security. Similarly, McAfee sells something termed Security Center. Now, I am all confused. I have several questions: Question #1: Which is the best Anti-Virus software currently? I am confused about which of these softwares should I buy? For example, should I buy McAfee Anti-Virus or Norton (which one is better? I don't know and so I can't make up my mind). Now, McAfee and Norton are just two examples. In reality, in the market place in anti-virus category itself there are several products. So an expert may tell me that I should neither buy McAfee or Norton; but instead choose Kaspersky because it is best anti-virus currenty around. So I feel you should guide me seriously about which is the best Anti-Virus software available as of now. Question #2: What is Internet Security? For example, several of these companies have their Internet Security Softwares. Now, does that mean that if I buy Internet Security Suite of a company it will give me full protection from Viruses, Spywares, Worms, Trojans, Malaware, Adware and what not and will this Internet Security Suite also install its firewall or whether for a firewall I will have to search for another company? Which is the best Internet Security Suite/Software currently available. Question #3: What is a firewall? What purpose does it serve? Now, my Windows Vista also has a firewall (that perhaps got installed when my PC came pre-installed with MS Vista Home Basic). Now, is this Vista firewall not enough as a protection? And which is the best firewall software currently? Thanks & Regards, Anita Mallya.

Re: Best professional AntiVirus program for home computer? I installed a free download of Avira AntiVirus program for my home computer, however, a pop-up keeps appearing regarding "purchasing" a subscription for "safer" protection. What is the BEST protection, PLEASE. Do free programs provide as much security as purchasing one? If so, which is the best to download for free (without the continuous pop-ups), and if purchasing is safer, which is recommended and what might I expect to pay? I have been told that Norton causes a computer to work slow...is this true? Please state your source, i.e., you have tried different programs free and/or purchased, etc. Please state the pros/cons for what you recommend. Thanks a lot! AKA A suggested Avira Premium Suite because it tested 3rd...which program tested in 1st place for overall competency? Just curious...would the 1st place competitor be a better purchase? Which company tested 1st place? Thanks again~
Is Platinum Protection, (home security), a legitimate company? If so, why do they use “hard” sale tactics? When I got home from work tonight, my family was being given a high pressure sales pitch from a Platinum Protection guy. The salesman was in his early 20's and said he was from Idaho and was just visiting our area to sale this wonderful home security system. If we display THEIR sign in our front yard for 3 years then EVERYTHING would be free, well except for the fee of ONLY $1.42 per day. He claimed that "Our Company doesn't even want to charge for the service, but the State makes us." I listened for a few minutes, and was disgusted with his sales spiel. I told him that we weren’t interested and that he needed to leave my home. He ignored me and kept talking to my wife. I again told him to leave my home. He then brought out his purchase order and said if my wife would just sign we could have the system installed tonight. I told the jerk, you can leave some information with us, but we will need to consider this for a few days. He was appalled, --cont. and insisted we had to sign tonight. I told him No. Now get out of my house. He again turned to my wife, asking her to sign. At this point, I said to him, Do I call the Police or pull out my shotgun to get you to leave? He left. I'm still fuming over his refusal to leave my home when told to. So, does anyone know if Platinum Protection is a legitimate company? After my experience, I won't deal with them. That high pressure makes me think they are not legimate. Anyone know about this company or dealt with them? 10 Points to the one who can give me information on this particular company!!
Has anyone purchased a Platinum Protection home security system? It was sold to me by a door to door salesman. Is this legit?? I have 3 days to decide if I want to keep the system.

Security/protection dog breeders? Do you have to be certified in some area to breed dogs specifically for home security and protection? Meaning certified as like..a former police officer or something along those lines. I don't plan on breeding. I was just curious. Don't get all technical on me. I just asked about whether you have to be certified or not to breed protection dogs. I think instead of meaning "breeding protection dogs," I was referring to having a certificate to train a guard dog.

Question about security at home? Ok, i have seen a lot of people talking about us not being safe at home, and are using that as an anchor for why we are at war with Iraq. First of all, the billions of dollars that we have spent in Iraq could have been put towards security and protection here at home, where our biggest defense should be anyway. Second, we are the most advanced country in the world. We can see planes anywhere in the world have a lot of time to monitor certain threats, the only reason 9/11 happened is because the planes were hijacked, which probably wont happen again now that security is so high now. And do you people honestly believe that their will be terrorists running in our streets? I mean come on, there will always be terrorists, but even if we stay in Iraq it wont matter if they are already here. That money could easily go to hunting down terrorists here as well. They strap bombs to themselves to prove thier points, and you cant deal with that in an effective manner. The question is why couldnt anyone seem to see this a long time ago and why nobody wants a timetable to get out of Iraq. I agree we need to stay now (there really is no question), but we need to take effective steps to get out as soon as possible. The question is why couldnt anyone seem to see this a long time ago and why nobody wants a timetable to get out of Iraq. I agree we need to stay now (there really is no question), but we need to take effective steps to get out as soon as possible. And for the people who actually comment on the fact that I say so much and have a problem with it there is an even easier solution. DONT READ IT.
home security? We live in Australia. You arent allowed to keep guns for protection. recently we had in our suburb a home invasion with a machete and sawn off shotgun. they havent caught the people. We have an alarm system but cant use it because of the cats. I get a bit scared sometimes because I feel we don't have enough security if someone came with a gun. We are thinking of installing a sensor light but are there any other suggestions to make your home safer?

how to improve the home network security? With Belkin N1 wireless router which acts as hardware firewall in conjunction with a software firewall gaurding my network, my pc still experienced some attempts of intrusion and attacks recently. How do i improve the security of the network? Can i add another hardware firewall between modem and router to add extra layer of protection? Since Belkin N1 is simply a packet filtering firewall, i would like a firewall performing more complex functions. Any suggestion?

Can i write off my dog for tax purposes? Protection of home office!? I am a contractor, I have an allocated area where I work from home, which I currently write off. Does my dog count as home security service? Should I not then be entitled to write off part of his vet bills, food and training? He’s not certified yet. But he’s is still a puppy. But i was thinking of him more as a silent alarm, or possibly even a distraction / anti theft device. Mastiff mixed with a shar pei! He’s very distracting What if during the day, I made him where a sign with my company name on it. Would he then be counted as an advertising deduction?

What kind of hand gun would recommend for for home defense? My only experience with a weapon is the M16 when I was in the National Guard. Believe it or not, I don't have much experience with hand guns. The contract for my home security service is about to expire and I would feel safer if I had a weapon for protection. I would like a hand gun that's safe and easy to use. The most I would pay is $500. Any recommendations and what should I expect to pay.

How to know what is the best weapon? All advice is appreciated. We live across from the police yard that itself has been broken into many times this year. When police are there! We are in Oregon if this helps and in the city limits. Thank you so much for your help and advice.

Do you think my brother (please see details) should purchase a gun for home defense? My brother is 67 and lives in a quiet, low-crime suburban neighborhood. He seems to feel that he should purchase a handgun or short barreled shotgun for home protection. He has a large male Doberman and another little dog that barks at any noise. He also has a home-security system with lights and paid service monitoring. I think he is wasting his money (he is on a fixed income) on something that statiscally he wll never use. He has always been the nervous type and I think he would be better off using the money to take a nice vacation. Please give your opinion.

I re-checked my info with my mom after reading your responses and she said I had my info wrong. They are 2 payments behind and owe $2,500. I asked her if she knew their lender and she didn't know. My uncle called her in despair and offered her few specific details. Our family is trying to figure out how to help them out this time, but would appreciate info on any on-line sites dealing with problems paying mortgage because we won't be able to help them in the future. They don't know I am doing this-their pride would be gone if they did. I like the rest of my family want to help them stay in their home and learn to educate them so that this doesn't happen again.

In Norton Internet Security 2008, how do I provide necessary "Protection updates and "Spyware Def." updates? Under the computer section in my Norton home menu, these are the only two things that are out of date. I just installed this program today. Thanks in advance! Yeah, it's kind of funny because this morning I looked and all of the "at risk" areas had been somehow magically fixed on their own except for a new "at risk" area today which was that my advanced firewall was turned off. I went to the help menu to figure out how to turn it on and before I could have the time to do so, it was fixed within 1 minute and turned on without me even doing a thing??? Thank you for your answer Fasdf D, but my Norton program says it has spyware protection so why do I need an additional one?

Do I have enough computer security on my PC? How about some free security programs? I have a laptop using Windows XP2 which I use regularly at random networks from a fraternity house, in college classes, to my home. Needless to say, I am not sure how secure the networks are: These programs run at system start up: Total Security: Paid Norton Security Center AntiVirus: Free AVG AntiVirus Firewall: Free Zonelabs Zone Alarm These programs run once a week: AntiSpyware: Windows Defender Beta, LavaSoft AdAware, and Spybot Search & Destroy I run Limewire for P2P now and then. I browse the internet with FireFox. I update regularly for windows, firefox and all of my security. I also game regularly online. My question is: does this sound safe? What else can I do? I dont want too many intrusive programs taking up tons of RAM, but I would like to be secure, as this new laptop is my only computer. Are there any free programs out there for college kids that are good for protection? Or do I have enough stuff running to protect me? Thanks all.

What Americans face the enemy? The innocents here at home or the protected and armed military? What is the message from the Extreme Left to our Military in Iraq? ‘Hang in there, we will get you home soon. You can come home, put your weapons away in the Arms Room, stow away all your protective gear, and park your vehicle in the Motor Pool. You and your family will be protected by the Boarder Patrol and over-extended local law enforcement. Rest easy; just for your protection we have our best intelligence personnel working with the above mentioned enforcement personnel and Homeland Security. Additional reassurance for you, your family, and the Americans you were never really protecting (misinformed by the President and Executive Branch) we are establishing the dialog technique in place of weaponry to end these disagreements between us and Al Qiada. With all the excellent areas above we can do this without loss of life or, most importantly, spending money we want to use here at home. The military are not fools, only sheep who follow the “Prophets of MoveOn.org” would be that naïve.

Bush, terrorist, Border, Homeland security? When 9/11 happen, our country for the first time in a long time was united and we wanted the person responsible to pay for the crime they committed. Here came Bush, angry and took charged and went after those jerks that were responsible. Many young men and women (including my son) join the military to fight for their country. We went to Afghanistan to find Osama Bin Laden, then all of the suddenly, we were in Iraq, fighting what????. Bush said that Saudan Hussein had weapon of mass destruction that he plan to use it against us. Our military, (Including my son) were sent to Iraq to take this despot out of office so that the people of the USA can be free from terrorist? Bush informed the USA that we are not secure and terrorist are planning to attack us, so Bush instituted home land security, where (Big Brother) can hear our conversation over the phone, read our email and etc. For added protection, we now had to have id to go on a plane, passport to go to and from Mexico and Canada and many other liberty rip away from us, all for our protection, yet he left the border open with no plan to close it. He left it with an invitation for any terrorist to come to this country via unsecured borders. I smell a skunk and Bush is right in the middle of it. Can anyone help me understand what is going on?

I have now downloaded ccleaner which seems to be the only thing that will work, but it doens't get rid of viruses etc. I have tons of trojans, adware, spyware. As of yesterday I now have this blinking icon in my system tray which goes from a question mark to a red X and tells me system alert every 5 second. If I click on it, it takes me to spylocked.com. I can NOT get rid of it...and I really think that it is most of my problem. AND NOW when I try and open my IE up. It doesn't allow me to go to a website. It just sits there and says searching....but if I click on the searbar it allows me to go. Can ANYONE help me or give me some advice.
