The little things: Animal Safety or Personal Purity? I think I have ended up in the minority on this vegetarian topic. I have heard of many v*gans who will buy pre-packaged products like raman noodles or some such and throw away the meat packet… or buy jeans that have the big, leather label and cut off the leather part. Those are smaller examples… I wish I could think of a bigger one at the moment. In my world, buying meat is as good as eating it. I do not mean they are not v*gan, I just mean that you contributed money to the slaughtering of animals and told a company to make more. I am only a vegetarian, so I do not have a ton of room to talk, but I feel that not contributing to the product is as important as not consuming the product. Vegetarians and vegans, what are your thoughts? Did I miss something? :) EDIT #1- I am curious, not judging. I like getting others' thoughts on topics. EDIT #2- Please no rude answers Good points so far... I guess I should mention that I am talking about ethical v*gans. :) I just realized I have been putting my asterisk in the wrong place. Sorry. @Aladdin I'm not quite sure if picking out the meat is the same thing. If I pick the pepperoni out of a pizza, I am still consuming the leftover fat/grease etc. of a pig, which is not vegetarian. I think with the extra packets etc., personal purity is maintained because the meat never touched the noodles... Hence, personal purity being more important than animal safety. Any thoughts? Apparently "veg*ns" is a quicker way of writing "vegans and vegetarians." :)
im doing a speech on why the FDA should regulate personal care prouducts and i need more information help!?!? so this is wht i have so far: Do you think that major businesses would avoid putting there customers in dangers way, when they would make lots of money even by doing so? I don’t! For example, just look at are tobacco companies. Every year many people die from using there products. Yet they continue to sell and produce there products because there making millions from it. Did you know that your cosmetics and personal care products aren’t even regulated by the FDA before they are sold to you? The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health discovered that 884 out of the 2,983 chemicals available to be used in cosmetics alone have been reported as toxic substances to the government. If the FDA doesn’t start regulating these products then just think about it that’s millions of people everyday that are putting themselves in danger of serious harmful conditions. There are statistics and sceneries that prove that cosmetics are a danger to the pubic. And proof that the FDA dose not regulate cosmetics nor do they make very many efforts to warn you or the dangers. One of the main reasons the FDA should regulate personal care products is the FDA website directly quotes that: “Cosmetic products and ingredients are not subject to pre market approval authority, with exception of color additives. However, FDA may pursue enforcement action against violative products or against firms or individuals who violate the law.” The FDA also states that: “Cosmetic firms are responsible for sustaining the safety of their products and ingredients before marketing failure to adequately substantiate the safety of a cosmetic product or its ingredients prior to marketing causes the product to misbranded unless the following warning statement appears conspicuously on the principal display panel of the products label: warning –the safety of this product has not been determined.” Their for because the FDA dose not regulate cosmetics and other personal care products just by using the products you are putting yourself in danger of cancer, genetic damage, and other serious conditions. Cosmetics include: baby powder, bubble bath, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving cream, hair tonics, hairsprays, colognes, sun tan lotions, mouth washes, baby shampoo, hand lotions, shampoo, conditioner, hair dyes, moisturizing cream, and many other products. Americans think these products are safe. But this confidence is too unjustified. Our public wants and demands higher standards of protection. This protection has been established for drugs, medical devices, and food additives but not for cosmetics. The Cosmetic industries want people to believe that no effective regulation of cosmetics is necessary at state or federal level. The FDA doesn’t even do much, to protect or warn women when it comes to the danger of using femine hygiene products. Not only have that but the legislation prohibited states from taking action as well. Cosmetics are under-regulated and too often hazardous. Here are just a couple examples of people that found this out the hard way: A 59 year old woman almost died from a allergic reaction she had to hair dye. Another woman of age47 had her cornea destroyed by a mascara wand. A 6 year old girl and her mother used air product that resulted in second degree burns on her ears and neck! As result of using a inflammable hair treatmfgbfgytjjjyjyjtjhhnnnhjnjhjjjmmmmjkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk……..zzs very scarred. Other examples of injures that cosmetics can result in are: pain and tissue damage, sores, eye infection, cancer, blindness, eye problems such as; rash, redness, swelling, and inflammation. And the list goes on and on. For every one million cosmetics products purchased there are 200 more visits to a doctor to treat cosmetic-caused illnesses. A study for consumer product safety commission in 1987 found that in 1 year alone, cosmetic products result in 47,000 emergency room visits. Between 1985 and 1987 more then 150,000 cosmetic related injures occurred. One third of chemicals used in cosmetics are toxic. More then 125 ingredients that are in cosmetics are suspected to be the cause of cancer. 20 cosmetic ingredients may affect the nervous system; this includes headaches, drowsiness, and convulsions. Birth defects are suspected to be cause by another 20 cosmetic ingredients. The GAO concluded that: “cosmetics are being marketed in the united states which may pose a serious hazard to the public.” I believe that the cosmetic companies should be regulated by the FDA. To make The likeliness of a person becoming injured less. And reduce the number of visits to the emergency room because of cosmetic related injures. i need a 10 minute long speech for my speech and debate class and this isnt long enough i know i need to deosite all my statistics(which r in one paragraph right now) but i ineed more information....everywhere i look its the same old stuff so can someone please help me get a few more paragaphs and stuff so i can be

Cheat and Eat weight loss pill? Please read the entire question before answering. Thanks I was scouring military.com to see if they offered anything such as videos/guides to military grade workouts/fitness routines. I didn't find any such thing, but I did find a pill called Cheat and Eat. A chemicle in the pill attracts fat molecules to itself and combines with it - the body won't absorb the chemicle and the result is the chemicle taking the fat with it when...ejected...The chemicle is only active in your system for 2-3 hours. etc etc. I would like to try this to test whether or not its a scam(it's merely 15 dollars for a supply that would last me a month) and of course if its not...then yay. But I'm mainly concerned about my personal safety as this product is not rated by the FDA(from what my research has given...but of course I found nothing that said it wasn't, merely never found anything that said that it was). If anyone has tried this pill, please tell me about your experience with it, thank yo

Do you think that members of Congress should have to use the products that they approve for public release? Should they have to eat genetically modified foods on a daily basis, eat non-organic fruits and veggies and regular milk and beef, get the vaccinations (adjusted to a higher dosage for their weight and which still have mercury in them as most still do today) that they missed out on (since kids today have to take 14+ --more than double of what Americans used to take and more than any other country today), drink fluoridated tap water--not bottled water--daily (governors and state officials who voted for it in their state would be made to drink it too), consume imported milk products from China that might have amounts of melamine that can lead to death and kidney and liver failure (which is the majority of the food supply today), get more vaccines for the flu and the human papilloma virus, take regular plane trips in the airport not on private jets (so they can be scanned and looked at naked and have their personal belongings confiscated), etc. Do you think they would start caring about public safety, health, privacy, and other issues that they irresponsibly voted for if they were made to suffer the consequences of their actions? Then members of Congress shouldn't have a problem with eating them exclusively.

What self defense products are legal in Europe (Germany)? I will be traveling abroad soon, living in Berlin and hopefully traveling to Prague, Amsterdam, etc. I am a 19 year old female who will be alone most of the time, and I'm worried about what I would do should I feel the need to protect myself against someone. I am wondering if there is some sort of self defense product I can buy (like pepper spray, stun guns/tasers, personal alarms, etc.) that Is legal for use in Europe, specifically in Germany, and how I can get one. Also, if any one has any thoughts in general on the safety of Berlin, I would love to hear them. Thank you very much!

But the exact ingredients in nair elude me. Which ratios of their hair removal substances would be best ? the ratios hmmm? and I'll form my own and some day post this on my not yet up internet site. Pays know hair removal recipe they use (in case war places them out of business or something., not dependent on the company) for personal use I am gonna try to mix some ! They are the best company and product ! Hair removal cream. got a formula like nair? I know Im in the hair section I thought Id see what you guys say. Ill repost at the skin & body section.
I want to become a Naturopath. Do I have what it takes? I have a true passion and interest in nutrition, health, consumer safety, and alternative medicine. I believe that conventional medicine is heavily flawed and does not appreciate the potential that a healthy diet and lifestyle can have on one's health. I also think that Americans are literally poisoning themselves with all of those unhealthy foods (like junk food filled with genetically modified ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and colors, etc), unnecessary prescription drugs (when herbs, diet, and exercise can do the job), and unhealthy lifestyles (using chemical laden personal care products, cooking food in microwaves and teflon pans, getting mercury fillings, etc). I also believe in the healing power of herbs and natural foods.
How to get Canada to adopt standards like those in EU? I am constantly frustrated that North America seems to always be miles behind the EU when it comes to issues like this (PBDEs, phthalates, chemicals in personal care products). Besides writing my political representative, is there anything else I can do? Ideas? i.e. REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use . It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. At the same time, innovative capability and competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry should be enhanced. The benefits of the REACH system will come gradually, as more and more substances are phased into REACH. The REACH Regulation gives greater responsibility to industry to manage the risks from chemicals and to provide safety information on the substances.

Anyone have info on GPS tracking for children? I'm looking for PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ONLY My son will be starting to walk to school without me soon and I'm terrified to allow him to, but I'm a struggling single mother and I need to have spinal surgery. I will need 6 months of recovery in bed and I have no one to help me with my children getting them to-from school. Not to mention help around my house and cooking. Anyway I'm looking into GPS tracking for extra safety measures. Does anyone have any personal experience with any of these products? i'm curious about price, flaws, comments. Anything that might help me. I am NOT looking for answers that only direct me to the products, I have already been researching these and at this point I only want to know your personal opinions about how these products work. Thanks! Oh and my son is 9 years old. He does NOT need space, he needs to be protected. We live too close for him to ride the bus, but too far from the school for me to be comfortable without knowing if he got there safely. I have asked every parent I could find to see if I could get help but no one is available.
The keyboard of my new Dell laptop exploded. Dell does not want to compensate. Any legal action possible? My Inspiron 6000 Dell laptop was only two years old and not under warranty. My pregnant wife and I heard a bang from our home's office. We saw that part of our laptop's keyboard was dismantled and literally exploded. I contacted Dell and pointed out that what occured was a safety issue and no product should explode like this only after two years after use, possibly causing personal injury. After being passed around from one extension to another, all I got from them was "Sorry, your PC was not under warranty at the time... and nothing they can do". Further contact through email resulted in them offering me $50 worth of gift certificate toward purchaing of Dell products... I refused to take their offer. In their last email they took away their last offer.... Please let me know if there is any legal action I can take against Dell. No product should explode causing possible injury to users even if not under warranty. I explained this to Dell with no result. Thank you.

Should drugs be legalized? Take into account that 1) if legalized, Government would know WITH CERTAINTY who the producers adn distributors are, and could put AND ENFORCE rules on them. 2) if legalized, there would be no incentive for bribing. (perhaps the legislators receive a lot of those bribes and thus don't want to spoil their personal income by legalizing the drug's) 3) Safety concerns can be tackled by forbidding to drive under the influence, just like alcohol. 4) Is easier to control distribution to minors if overall distribution is legal, because you can establish strong punishment for the producers whose products are sold to minors (like FDA de-authorization) 5) FDA would supervise the content of the drugs and dismiss those with harmfull effects. 6) Instead of spending money on fighting drug smuggling, the govt would make a lot on taxes OK. Marijuana is natural. What about Coca leafs? They have been in use in the Andes for a couple of milleniums, with no side effects.

Self-Piercing? I know there are horror stories out there about self-piercing. If you're just here to call me cheap or ignorant, best not post. Your precious ignorance will be wasted. There is a personal reason for my self-piercing. I have enough to pay for a professional piercing, but matters go deeper than that. I've done a good amount of research on self-piercing, and will be investing in top-quality, professional tools, as well as a reliable aftercare product. Would anyone happen to know the safest procedure for self-piercing? I've got one in my mind, and read quite a bit, as I've mentioned, but I'd like to be backed with safety measures and such. Thanks. Thanks again, guys. Yes, I'm ordering professional-grade stuff - pre-sterilized, unopened, and the works. This will be for an outer labia piercing, and possibly a clit hood.

bush kerry debate iraq economy? Health care, taxes also key issues By Alexandra Abboud Washington File Staff Writer President George Bush and Senator John Kerry fielded questions from undecided voters and vigorously defended their stances on health care, the economy and the war in Iraq as they faced off in the second of three scheduled presidential election debates. The debate, the only one of the three set up in a town hall meeting format, took place at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, October 8. Bush defended his decision to go to war with Iraq, saying, "Saddam Hussein was a threat because he could have given weapons of mass destruction to terrorist enemies. Sanctions were not working. The United Nations was not effective at removing Saddam Hussein." Kerry questioned Bush's decision to go to war. "[Saddam Hussein] didn't have weapons of mass destruction, Mr. President," he said. "And if we'd used smart diplomacy, we could have saved $200 billion and an invasion of Iraq, and right now Osama bin Laden might be in jail or dead. That's the war against terror." Each candidate claimed that a report released October 6 by the Central Intelligence Agency on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq validated his own position. The town hall forum allowed the candidates to walk around the stage and gesture -- a departure from their first, more formal September 30 debate in Coral Gables, Florida, in which they were required to remain behind a podium -- allowing for a more free-flowing and personal presentation by each. While the first debate focused specifically on foreign policy, this second debate gave voters an opportunity to hear the candidates' positions on domestic issues that in many ways affect voters most directly, including health care and taxes. The candidates sparred over one of the most crucial election issues -- the economy -- with President Bush and Senator Kerry defending their differing views on the issue. "The president was handed a $5.6 trillion surplus...when he came into office," Kerry said. "We now have a $2.6 trillion deficit. This is the biggest turnaround in the history of the country." Bush defended his economic policies, citing the recent recession and the cost of war. Speaking to Kerry, Bush said, "Like you, I'm concerned about the deficit. But I am not going to shortchange our troops in harm's way. And I'm not going to run up taxes, which will cost this economy jobs." The issue of health care also played an important role in the debate, with one questioner inquiring about the importation of low-cost prescription drugs from Canada. President Bush cautioned that the safety of prescription drugs coming into the United States must be carefully considered, and said the Food and Drug Administration and the Surgeon General are currently working to insure that such importation can be done safely. "I want to remind you that it wasn't just my administration that made the decision on safety. President Clinton did the same thing, because we have an obligation to protect you," he said. In response, Senator Kerry said the administration blocked a bill to bring less expensive prescription drugs into the country. "We're not talking about Third World drugs. We're talking about drugs made right here in the United States of America that have American brand names on them in American bottles," he said. Polls continue to show Bush and Kerry in a statistical dead heat as they begin preparation for their third and final debate on domestic issues October 13 in Tempe, Arizona. Is this Essay good. Found it on the Internet.? The life of one person is a precious pearl of wisdom, passion, love, and guidens which allows us to seek the truth, and refuge of everyday life. The novels “The Black Echo” and “By The Cold River” display the hardship and struggles of abiding by the rules of everyday life which concurs to the beliefs of the criminal life; which eventually leads to a death of an individual. “The Black Echo” presents the rise and fall of an individual in the criminal life more effectively than “By The Cold River”, and is a much greater example of one’s struggle to determine their identity in constant masses of mental suffering which can be seen through the stages of mental and physical suffering, the evolution and the destruction of a characters beliefs through his unimaginable mindset. The justification of beliefs through the process of mind vision alone is tempting to the fact that uncharitable and unreliable credibility can be mounted and brought up to one’s judgment. In the case of Harry Bosch in the novel “The Black Echo”, Bosch deals with a lot of secondary distractions which lead to an excess of uncanny decisions that ultimately leads to his failure as a lone just detective with moral rights. “You mean the window? I’m not here about that.” This quote exemplifies the distress Harry is feeling during the time of his best friend’s death; he can t seem to cope with the loss and is suffering mentally due to seeing the world surrounding him one dimensionally instead of praising the surroundings with open arms. The hardship of having to deal with emotional and mental struggles each and every single day is tedious and harmful to your mental and physical being in every shape and form. From day one the self conceived “Tunnel Rat” Harry Bosch was alone, isolated, and bridged from the rest of society. The belief to air out suggestions and dismantle ongoing connections from his surroundings, has succumbed and strained Bosch to a minimum, with only a few shreds of belongings to his aid. The mindset of philosophical vision can be attributed to such techniques exhibited by Bosch during his outcry, do discover the mysterious death of long time “Tunnel Rat” friend Ralph Cupperd, only to slowly become more devious and hateful to others during his long quest of hardship and delight for others. Stages of mental suffering can vary on the strength of one’s being or self, Harry Bosch manages to deal with his suffering with anger, full throttle, and revenge of others on a prominent case he feels needed to bring himself back to life. The dilemma of a person is an eventful stage in life without sole purpose to one’s sacred being as presented by the setting of the novel, which takes place on the outskirts of New York City. The general idea of post-cold war New York with a delusional and misunderstood Harry Bosch have led him to believe that he is just an illusion of his afterthoughts, or a product of nothing but a set of cold ashes on the floor. The evolution of Harry Bosch’s Character from a smear savvy being to a heartless, vengeful, and fearless being has made him realize the understanding of the setting around him in order to graze and relish the time of luck and charm against tough love, and hard chances on the streets of New York. The high risk of understanding what needs to be done can elude one from the promising challenges in life as attributed to Mr.Bosch’s sense of knowledge and understanding through the struggles of others. “As preposterous as I may look and sound I am the legacy of the department”. Bosch is constantly referring to himself as a generally stable person, and the only hope for the LAPD to solve the crime mystery of his late “Tunnel Rat” friend Ralph Cupperd. It is indeed noted in this passage that Bosch is struggling and going through two stages of mental suffering, he is going through internal/external suffering on the basis of Ralph and himself. In order to pursue a solid goal one must struggle to achieve it; in the case of Harry Bosch that task has been succumbed but, incomplete in the challenge of surfacing a prime case against his usual suspects. Bosch is indeed a mystery of illusions that will only be solved with a few cracks, and twirls in the direction and path of salvation even if it means jumping the gun and hording his own life for the sake of the others in his life. To master a plan one must study, elaborate, and set a goal for it as done by detective Harry Bosch. A parallel of commodities can be justified with a choice of power given to one special person on a basis of a mutual agreement. The construction of a suggested basis agreement can be stacked, and destroyed, dependant on the outcome of the heralded situation through long periods of time. The novel “By The Cold River” by Henry Perkins provides key situations where a character endures extreme limits of both physical and mental suffering as especially attributed to Joey Padilla a young sailor. The climatic point in the novel allows us to view the struggles of Joey, but allow us to observe the rise and fall of Joey Padilla. The identity of a person is crucial in identifying their general philosophical views of their surroundings, and their personal beings. The outcry of success or failure is surfaced by the gesture of completion or incompletion, as indicated by Mr. Padilla's movements through the novel. The attempt to save his own life through others has led Mr. Padilla to absorb fruitful, and sorrow reaction from the patriotic nearby towns people in Leigh Port. It’s the sense of dignity but more so pride that causes the downfall of a central character in the midst of moving up the ladder towards the ultimate goal of achieving strength, will, and freedom. The pride of Joey Padila was his sense of greatness, kindness, and, leadership to others. It is the sense of joy to conquer, to set sail or foot on something of value worth greatness in order to feel the anxiety and urge of knowing the moment of truth within or within the value of life itself. “By The Cold River” within itself presents a classic tale of moral values between many righteous people, and their wrong doings of guilt, shame, and, redemption. It is clearly evident that Joey Padilla views his surroundings rather vividly then the reader by attempting to pursued nearby towns people to respect one another, and help release Puddy the local shopkeeper whom is on the road towards exile. The wishes of our hearts, minds, and soul are just a facet of the mind towards the never ending cycle of life which is mind, and self control over one’s being. Discovering a true passion for life is difficult in making equivalent decisions, and hard sought goals to pattern out. The height at which Puddy takes is risky, but comes with a high reward in knowing the sense of joy in completing a task in a troublesome life which has cost him his past with some effect on his future. Mr. Puddy deals with the struggle of the unknown crime, the heinous deed that he was wrongfully framed for absoloutely no cause of fear, “It is I whom must fulfill the requirements of the jury, and move on with their selection” (page 79). Tony Puddy ensures the townspeople, and his lawyers that the truth will most likely be vanquished within the eyes of the ruthless human being who has kept quiet during the whole ordeal, but demands his supporters to move on with their lives in order to live and forget about the past. It is highly ironic to note that the Padilla confession to Mr. Puddy on page 112 is greatly significant in determining the fate of Mr. Puddy on death row; it is the wishful confession of hurtful rumours that has contained Mr. Puddy to become isolated from the rest of society along with his unimaginable mind knowledge which has unfortunately let him down during the times of his trial. The criminal life can lead to serious distress, and loss of words to one’s self, it can also have a much harmful effect to one person’s identity, causing one to pursue a new identity under a new name. The reality can be surprising, truthful, but effective in a hurtful way. It is well known that Mr. Puddy is a drunken alcoholic in a sadistic virtue, but he is seemingly a character with great prosper, and acquainted knowledge of his surroundings which include the towns people of Leigh Port. It was a crucial decision for Joey Padilla to make; the decision of whether to talk to Tony Puddy again or not, or whether to leave Minnesota forever. Indeed Joey acknowledged his own decision, and set off to Vancouver for a stay which could possibly last for millions. “You must go now, take your belongings, and leave I shall not have any part in this anymore” (page 176). Tony Puddy once again persuades Mr. Padilla and his associates to leave Minnesota to catch a flight to Vancouver, which will save him from the chances of exile, and punishment if convicted guilty during the resurrection ceremony of Mr.Puddy himself. Whether it is Joey Padilla, Tony Puddy, or even Doctor Howry, the opportunity of discovering a self –identity is priceless. Without your identity it is quite difficult to succeed in life, but with a certified identity, and a solid background the future is bright, clear, and very shiny. The comparison between two greater sets of characters is quite understandable in the achievements made during their lifetimes. In the novel “The Black Echo”, Harry Bosch is an undervalued type one homicide detective with little or no understanding of his surroundings, which indicates his isolation in greater parts of society. In complete polar similarities Tony Puddy is a drunken alcoholic with little or no room for extra mistakes, wh
