Domestic violence? I reported domestic violence against my husband. We fought and he hit my face, I can't hear properly now. However, I'm very suprise that they took him to jail. I bailed him out and he have to go to court on Jan 17. I receive the letter stating that it's him against the people of Illinois, and I am as the witness. I remember I do not wish to press charge against him and do not sign any paperwork. Police just ask me various info like dob, ph, etc. What should I do? do I need to appear in court? I mean, we did had argumeent and he did hit me, but I do not wish him go to jail and we want to work the marriage out for the sake of our son. What should i do? oh yah, this is in Illinois.

When Domestic Violence is a Pattern, are questions of Justification Relevant at all? (inspired by a couple of questions about if or when hitting is justified) Is it the case that most Domestic Violence happens over a sustained period, rather than being a one time thing? If this is so, then are questions of "when it's okay to hit" really relevant at all to most real life situations? Are the better question for most people - "when is it appropriate to leave an abusive situation?" and "How much should anyone be prepared to tolerate?" What do you think?
Domestic Violence: How easy is it to get an apprehended violence court order taken out against my partner? I am giving serious thought to separating from my partner of 12 years and get custody of my children since we have been arguing and fighting a lot lately, particularly over money matters and disciplining the children. The way Domestic Violence Crisis Service, Legal Aid Office and Womens Legal Assistance explained it to me makes it seem easy but is it? I thought I'd seek out comments from others who have been through the court process and find out what their experience was like.

How often do women get away with domestic violence? From what I've read, if a woman physically assaults her husband, he calls the cops, but he gets arrested for nothing. Cops are sexists! In these days, how often do women get away with domestic violence? Whats the percentage?
Feminists (and others), could you explain your understanding of the domestic violence problem? I would like to see what everyone considers the truth about the current domestic violence problem (particularly in the United States) to be. In other words, do you believe that it is overwhelming a problem caused by males that can only be stopped by males, do you think men and women are equally violent, or do you have another take on the issue? Please cite a source if you use statistics. I'll post my take on it after I get a few replies. Actually, I reported you, because you suggested that I "sniffed men's farts" and that "your sister could beat me up-" therefore, you were not contributing anything. I don't hate women- I want to see what feminists think about this issue. First off, Allegra, I've already read the advocacy garbage AND the actual DOJ/CDC statistics from the report. That little group is, like usual, taking things out of context. Secondly, that "85%" statistic refers to a source "5" which WASN'T EVEN RECORDED on the citations at the bottom. Very shoddy, if you ask me. Hey, I NEVER said that the DOJ statistics were garbage, I said the advocacy group was. The way they portrayed the statistics was shoddy and they didn't even cite one of the sources they supposedly had. That is AWFUL practice and even a high school student wouldn't make that mistake. I'll add my input on the problem now. A source: http://www.csulb.edu/~mfiebert/assault.htm It's an interesting read- it's basically a compendium of (often large) studies that concern violence in males and females. From what I've read, in at least the younger crowd of people (college age and below), women tend to initiate more violence than men, sometimes at a level twice that of males when "mutual initiation" is excluded. The main reason appears to be attention, i.e., "He wasn't listening to me." I, unlike some, will put it in context, however, and recognize that males do more serious damage than females do for reasons of strength, while female violence is more often slapping/pushing, although they are more likely to use objects. The updated death rates for 2004 are 1,159 women and 385 men, by the way, meaning that the ratio is almost exactly 75% male to 25% female. Conclusion- males still perpetrate the majority of physical violence for the time being, but this may change. The two radical feminist posters seem to have a severe problem with reading questions. The question is, could you EXPLAIN your understanding of the problem. If you did not agree with one of the models I posted, you are MORE than welcome to post your own. Anecdotes, wonderful as they are for emotional argument, will NOT explain the severity, incidence, or prevalence of domestic violence. Get that, "militant poster/advocacy group poster?" (Beating around the bush like that is getting on my nerves.) WOW, "Militant Poster..." "Is it because guns are so easy to obtain in the USA?" And exactly WHAT do you have to say about Switzerland, a country where almost EVERYONE owns a gun? What explains their low crime rate? "Experts" tend to be heathen fools who don't know what they're talking about. It will be MY generation, not YOURS, that will see an end to this problem. Do you know WHY that gun murder problem occurred? Because the university didn't follow procedures and issue a lockdown when it should have. If it had FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURES, many of those students would be alive. Think before you type, because you can't very well take back sheer idiocy on the Internet. (Or Internets, if you're Bush.)
What do you think is the reason for the recent 50% drop in domestic violence cases? Personally, I see it as a good thing that domestic violence has fallen by half, but it has been falling for the last 20-years. The most significant change from the improved training of police officers, as a result of the Violence Against Women Act, that has driven down the rates, is the major increase in the arrest of women for domestic violence. Check arrest reports, and especially talk to any female police officer, and you will find that almost 40% of DV arrests are women, with the majority by female officers. That, in and of itself, is significant, in that female officers make up only 13% of police forces. I hope they keep up the good work and that the Associations for Female Police Officers & Women in Law Enforcement will push to mandate female officers be at least on of the responding officers on all domestic disturbance calls. Check any study on domestic violence, but look at the data charts instead of just reading the summary and you find that men are the victims in 39% of the cases. The story is reprinted from the Washington Post. As for the rest, search under DV against men. I've worked with the male victims for 18 years. http://www.abs-comptech.com/domestic.html A good study is Murder in Families by the US Justice Dept. What's the most common factor found in women you batter men? They account for 55% of fatal child abuse, on their own childrem, compared to that committed by anyone. Fathers are 8%, stepmothers/girlfriends are 9% & stepfathers/boyfriends are 10%. Numbers don't change when custody arrangements are taken into account. To learn how men can be victims, rent the movie MEN DON'T TELL. Also, talk to any female police officer. The most common form of battery against men is with a frying pan while he is watching TV or sleeping. Wxamples of it are seen all the time in comedies and in comic strips. Yes, I was a victim once, of a thrown pot of coffee, but my wife had developed Bipolar disease. I sent her away 2 years ago and treatment has helped her. The only reason I don't bring her back now is that she is being sued for injuries she caused someone else, and if I bring her back, they can add my income to the lawsuit, taking everything I own. We have to wait until it is settled. Of interest, I just took home a young woman from the KCKS jail. She was arrested on a DV involving 2 broken wine bottles. Neither had been drinking. The argument was over her being 2 hours late getting home from a movie with friends. She didn't call to say she was running late. There is a baby and the arresting officer was female. I offered to help them get into counseling.

How do you beat a domestic violence charge? If somebody filed a claim of domestic violence but it was a lie and they want to get the other person out of trouble how do they do it. The other person has a record and the state picked up the charges.
I need to write a research method paper on domestic violence, can you help guide me ? I failed this class previously due to researching a bad topic. Has anyone ever been a victim of domestic violence? I have a female friend and she's in this situation. Has anyone ever been a victim of domestic violence? Was it emotional, physical, etc? What did your spouse do to you? What did you do to end the violence? Do you know anyone who was a victim and it led to death or suicide? Do you know anyone who stayed in a abusive relationship?
Has any teens or adults ever been a victim of domestic violence? I have a female friend and she's in this situation. Has anyone ever been a victim of domestic violence? Was it emotional, physical, etc? What did you do to end the violence? Do you know anyone who was a victim and it led to death or suicide? Do you know anyone who stayed in a abusive relationship?
Does a dismissed claim of domestic violence show up in a backround check? First I have to say, because I feel so vilainized by this, I did not, would not, will not, ever in my life, physically abuse a woman. I find the act of abusing a woman, or even violence (unless in self defense) appalling and inexcusable, which is why I am devastated by this claim. Long story short, my ex filed a frivolous domestic violence claim against me. She wanted an injunction against me in place for a year going into the hearing and when I showed up with witnesses she immediately decided to dismiss it. No charges or police involvment, no arrest, no evidence, just her claim in which she doesn't even state any violence, because there was none. Now this hearing for domestic violence is on my public records. I'm devestated by this, my character is very important to me and I have no criminal record whatsoever. I can prove she lied and seriously exagerated, etc. And show a motive for her actions. I'm now suing to prove my side. If I win, can this be removed from my records? Now that I am suing her she tells a friend about how high her legal expenses are (she hired an attorney to file the domestic violence claim) , say's "she doesn't know how things got to this" and "she just wants to be my freind". I really don't even know what to say to that. Thanks carrie ann, btw technically there were no charges, just what my lawyer says amounts to a "claim" by her. Charges would only have been if I was arrested. She basically just went to court and filed a written statement... ie: claim.
What do I do with a friend that I know is guilty of domestic violence? I have a friend that is currently incarcerated for Assault 4, Which in Washington State is what domestic violence is under. I'm pretty sure he did it. Met some witnesses and; unfortunately with his girlfriend, he fits the abusive personality to a tee. Manipulative, arrogant, all of that. However; he claims to be innocent and is pleading innocent and is trying to convince me of this. This personally pisses me off for the simple reaon of I was falsely charged with a slightly more serious charge in Texas (Assault to a family member with attempt to do bodily harm) and could not defend myself because I had little money. I am not one to abandon a friend and the ethics I fall under (Christian) require me to be there for him while he is incarcerated. However; he is seriously pissing me off. Suggestions? I already want to grab his neck and shake really hard; but, it's not right so I won't.
How much time will I get for a simple domestic violence charge in Texas? Charged with a bogus domestic violence charge while in a hotly contested divorce. Was simply a pushing/yelling match. No injuries for either of us. Also charged with interference with an emergency phone call. This would be a first ever offense with a clean criminal record on my part. What would a typical sentence be for me???
What was the news regarding Suicide and domestic violence victims today? On the radio today there was something about the law being changed regarding domestic violence victims committing suicide. That the perpetrators could be held responsible? My colleague talked through the entire report and I cant find it on any news forum. Did any one catch it? Just answered my own question! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6060896.stm Think its great news though... Do you agree with it?
Does anyone know of anyone who is a nurse and has a domestic violence charge on their record? My wife has a domestic violence charge on her record and can not get it removed. She wants to be a nurse and in the state of ohio she is not allowed. Does anyone know of anyone who is a nurse and has a domestic violence charge on their record, if so what state do they practice in? If you could give the place of employment, that would be great, no persons names though of course. Thank you for your time.

Do people who commit domestic violence get the punishment they deserve? I have to do a research paper on domestic violence and am trying to get some other views. Do people who commit domestic violence get the punishment they deserve or is it just a slap on the wrist? what do you do when anger management classes dont work. what about restraining orders that have been violated. Ok Me, what about if the person has already been charged once before and does it again. No matter how severe the crime. Flafuncops- yes there are things that can be put in place to keep the perp from attacking the victim again(restaining orders) but that is just a piece of paper. does it hold much weight? Why is it that a person has to be a repeat offender to get a severe punishment? You can also post to my blog: 360.yahoo.com/tinisha213
What are some useful publications about the cases of domestic Violence? Are both parties in a domestic violence dispute arrested? I know of a couple who were arrested and put in jail in Georgia for domestic violence and as it turns out their two son's were put in foster care and then adopted out. Is it as cut and dry as it sounds or would there be other contributing factors for the children to have been adopted out?
Need fair booth ideas for a domestic violence shelter? We are a domestic violence shelter and we are going to have a booth at the local county fair. The theme of the fair this year is "A Homegrown Experience". We need some ideas to incorporate this theme with domestic violence and our shelter.
How common is domestic violence among men? I am writing a report on domestic violence and am focusing on abused males. What I am looking for are personal testimonies (confidential, of course- a first name is appreciated). Statistics and reasons why you would/would not come forward are also welcome.
