is assured personal safety worth giving up ones personal liberties?

we are having an english debate on friday with this topic and i really dont know what side i stand on this is worth some points and it would help alot if i could have some help with both sides. thanks a whole bunch this would be awesome

1. luckily here in the USA we have not had to give up any liberties and we are as safe as any place in the World.
2. No its not worth it. What is freedom but the ability to take risks? Step outside the bubble? Do your own thing? At your own peril?
