How much personal freedom are you willing to sacrifice for the sake of safety?

Would you be willing to have Closed Circuit TV in public places that cannot only watch you, but listen to you, and talk to you? Like they have in Britain?

  1. No. I think we've gone too far. There's no such thing as personal freedom anymore.
  2. You mean like Big Brother? No, I don't want the cameras. There are better ways to prevent terrorism, but they are not "PC" enough....like deport all the jihadi types that are here on "student visa" and stop allowing the import of Wahabbist propaganda from Saudi Arabia. But that would be too..."racist"....although I never figured out how a religious philosophy is the same thing as a "race" and btw those guys are all "white".
  3. None,I am not concerned about my personal safety, but I do like my freedoms, you are only on this earth a short time so enjoy what time you have and make it count for something
  4. No. I think it's a stupid idea to give up your personal freedoms for any reason. The first Americans didn't turn over all their freedoms to the government when they were fighting the Revolutionary War, they stood on their porches with their hunting rifles and took some responsibility for protecting themselves and their families and communities. Americans need to grow some balls, and quit handing their civil liberties over to the government.
  5. absolutely not! i think the government has gone to far with the patriot act already. our personal freedom is a gray area now and i don't like it.
  6. holy shit, it's big brother in britain. any brits out there, dont take that crap. next thing you know everywhere is rigged with wire-taps and people start disappearing. maybe it wont be that drastic, but that's still a huge step towards the world of "Big Brother" at the same time, it almost sounds like security cameras with audio, which isnt that scary. i dunno...i think i like the regular "sit-in-the-corner-and-not-talk-to-ppl" security cameras in america
  7. No I dont think this should be allowed. We have traded our personal freedoms for perceived threats and enemies! Wake up people! The government is lying to us and we simply sit back and allow it. Protect your rights-cause if you dont fight for them then they will disappear.
  8. How much personal safety are you willing to sacrifice before you lose all of your freedom? With freedom comes responsibility. Our greatest gift is freedom, but it is also the greatest weakness that our enemies can exploit. Our enemies hunger for power which makes this whole life thing such a challenge. Freedom comes with a certain need to trust those in authority. It's rather amusing, when I was young I didn't trust authority, but when I look back, that's because I was involved in illegal activities and I didn't want to get caught. Today I tend to trust authority, however I am also reminded of my beliefs. Currently there is a strong group of leaders who share my beliefs and thus I trust them and don't mind giving up some freedom in the name of security...however when will the balance of power shift? When will those in authority decide that it is safe to implant an identity device in us all? This authority will cross a line that I do not believe in. As long as I citizen and those in authority over me agree on the concrete status of life in this world, then I have nothign to fear and my freedom will not be violated, thus safety from enemy powers...yet, when the enemy gains power due to a common fear of loss of freedom, then my freedoms will be violated. It's a confusing circle...this is not about "Big Brother" but a more haunting figure that goes deep into a spiritual war which many of us are too naive to see until it is too late.
  9. I'm not concerned about my personal safety. It is well protected with Mr. Glock 17L and Lady Smith and Wesson. Oh, and I have five flatmates who are just as aggressive as I. While I don't have an issue with the cameras, I do think it's sad we live in an age where such things are considered a necessary evil. If a sense of common human decency and personal responsibility were more firmly rooted in each and every one of us, it likely wouldn't be necessary, would it? Another thing I've noticed is that ever since 9/11 it is actually harder for people trying to enter the US legally to get back home. Do the authorities honestly believe someone with bad intent and an awareness of the security measures in place is going to just stroll into an airport? Especially since it's easier to do it the old-fashioned way and just sneak across a border. ~Morg~
