Is it legal to have security cameras inside the dressing room stall?

Im just wondering because my mom said that stores have cameras in them all the time, and i thought it was illegal. I read some things where it said it depends on the state, but idk. Do they have them in the actual mirror inside your dressing room?

  1. It must be cause they do that in department stores around here.
  2. like you said depends on the state but inmoststatesit is illegal
  3. I'm thinking that the official explanation would be that they're there to deter thieves, but aren't actually operational. Which is dodgy, because if they are hooked up to the systems they could still be used, so it should be illegal.
  4. it is legal, keep it this way. if there was security cameras in the stalls, its equivalent to try on clothing in public with less people watching. sick people
  5. Yes, It's considered private. Just a few weeks ago (here) a guy got arrested for just that .
  6. in some states
  7. in most places it is illegal to have them in the actual stalls.. but there usually is one in the dressing room outside the stall..
  8. In most states it is illegal. In some, it is legal, which is disgusting and pervy. (I've seen signs saying "dressing room cameras monitored by same-sex staff," which still is not comforting.) Most will have a camera outside the room itself so they can count how many items you bring in and how many you take out. It is also legal to have non-functional cameras hooked up or signs claiming that there are cameras even when they aren't, as it's a theft deterrent. So yeah, you have to check on your individual state.
  9. It is legal if they state that you are under video surveillance (this is often posted on the front door of the store). And stores require that you wear undergarment when you try on clothing, so you shouldn't be naked anyway. It is illegal, however, for a private indiviual to film in the fitting rooms (since they have't given you notice that you're being taped. It is also illegal to record someone using the restroom, since it IS considered to be a private place.
  10. it is not legal
