What's the best "non-gun" option for personal safety?

Is MACE the best legal, non-gun option for personal safety? Would tasers be another option? If you're attacked in a dark alley by muggers, what would be the best device to defend yourself with (EXCLUDING guns)?

  1. a tropper gate taser.
  2. Knives.
  3. Taser
  4. well most libs are to weak to defend themselves they would end up losing the mace or tazer to the attacker who will use it on them. they will be better off screaming like a little girl till help arrives.
  5. Guard dog
  6. well if they have a gun, and they often do... there really isnt anything. If someone has their finger on the trigger even a stun gun (taser) could cause them to pull it. I would have to say timing and watching your back is as good as you can do. I carry mace, but I know alot of winning and self defense has to do with circumstance
  7. I don't believe Mace is legal...Pepper Spray is though. At least in California. I think that is the best option. One that fits on your key ring.
  8. I believe taser would be the most effective. I've been meaning to get one. Have a good evening.
  9. Tasers work well against one attacker at a time, pepper mace is good if you get a good face shot with it, but if your attackers are armed with guns forget it you are screwed, unless you have a gun also.
  10. Shouldn't we be teaching people how to avoid getting mugged in a dark alley? I guess I would keep a small knife with me, and cut under the knees, so that no real permanent damage is done, but so I can easily get away. A taser can seriously hurt someone with heart problems, no matter if they are trying to steal your purse.
  11. 3 options: 1. Get yourself a tazer 2. Learn karate 3. Stay home
  12. nothing beats a Louisville Slugger, it makes that sweet sound when it bounces off the certain someones pointy head
  13. The best thing for personal safety is being aware of your surroundings and of course not looking for trouble in the first place.
  14. taser would be your best help but the ones that are sold to civilians are the ones that have to be contacted on a body to be effective.
  15. The best "offense" is a really good "defense". Any "device" you use is only as good as your reaction in such a situation. Choose the one that you are most comfortable with using, it has to be easily "found" in a high pressure situation.... (the mace that is in the bottom of your purse or suit case isn't any help when you need it quickly..) And you need to know how to use it like a "pro". So whether you get mace or a taser gun make sure that you practice how to "draw" it fast and that you know what to do to make it most effective and that you have it "handy" to be able to use it in time. Frankly.... I prefer a large dog by my side when walking around in dark alleys... and since I am a female and have walked many dark alleys successfully in my life... let's just say that "blending" into the night is the best defense from being detected by "bad guys".
  16. Flinging poop at assailants. It's not illegal & you can make it yourself and will deter most any criminals. Either tossing it at them or slapping them in the face with it.
  17. taser.
  18. Slimick, the sad truth is that if you are truly worried about personal protection, a firearm is your only reliable option. Tasers can only handle one threat at a time, have short effectiveness, and are somewhat unreliable. Mace and other forms of chemical defense sprays are hit or miss as far as reliability goes and 9 times out of 10 the spray will harm the victim as well as the attacker. Again, if you are serious about self defense you need to look into firearms and a concealed weapons permit (if available in your state). There are many capable revolvers that can be had for around $300 and semi automatics that can be had for around $500. Shoot me an email if you're interested and I can give you some good pointers.
