1. Well if you are talking self-defense, than you can carry either pepper spray, stun guns, or tasers. Each has its own benefits. Pepper spray can be used against a group. Stun guns are easy to conceal and cost effective. Tasers are more expensive, but the most versatile. I would have to say for an office a stun gun would be your best bet, because its small, and doesn't have an area/ranged effect like pepper sprays and tasers, so you would just be hitting the person you wanted, and not some innocent bystander.
