  1. You should not get a dog just to protect your home.....if you want your home protected get a security system or a gun....not a dog.
  2. Stick with a Lab.
  3. Labradors, boxers and spaniels. All mad dogs with great personalities and can pack a punch when they need to. Also good dogs for training. Contact your nearest kennel club for better advice. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/
  4. Chi-wahwah from beverlhills
  5. Staffy Bull Terrier.Don't take any notice of the bad press. They will love and protect your kids and your house (and you of course)! I have 2 and I wouldn't be without them.
  6. A Rottweiler they are an excellent all around dog for family companionship and guarding. Loyal, intelligent, playful and highly trainable. They were bred for guarding and they are loyal to the death. They must have a strong handler though, not a good first dog.
  7. ma mate steph has a staffy named keira and she is really protective if i pretend to have a fight with steph, keira will protect her and its the same with me she will protect anyone from harm when there is potentially danger hope this helps xx
  8. labradors, or like a border collie cross or kelpie cross they are gorguzz dogs we have one and she has been a goodd watch dog for the past 12 years! but they do seem like high energy dogs but if u hav high energy kids, they will be a perfect match and we got her from a shelter so a kelpie or mixed breed from the shelter should do you good!
  9. I agree with the other answer that dogs should not be gotten for security, get a security system. But on the fact of guard dogs, every dog is territorial. I have a bull terrier and a lab both and unfortunately for me my dogs don't care anybody that wanted could come in my house and both are supposed to be good guard breeds so never get a dog just for security get one for love cause there is no guarantee they will be a guard dog no matter what breed. And that is how a lot of guard breeds wind up in shelters because they decide not to guard.
  10. doberman if they're legal where you are, we got a springer and a doberman, and a mutt, anyway... my doberman barks like hell when i walk him in the dark and someone walks past me, he wouldnt hurt anyone unless they hurt us, but hes very mouthy, and thats all you really need, a dog with a good bark is perfect :) all the neighbours know that he wouldnt hurt them, but we got the beware of doberman signs etc and that helps too... but anyways, rottweiler, alsations ( PERFECT! ) dobe :)
  11. Most dogs are good security, as their bark in general regardless of breed is usually a good deterent. I would say it's more important to find a breed good with Children and suitable to your lifestyle. Dobermans are probably the best protection breed going, and they are generally very good with children (talking from experience), however they can be a little on the large side and could knock children down, pull them over etc, and they are probably not suitable for your children to walk or take out of the yard as they are strong dogs. Terriers and collies although lovely dogs can be snappy with children if they annoy them. I think you probably have a pretty suitable breed already!
  12. For a start NOT a staffy they are nice dogs n all but were bred to be dog aggressive not people aggressive. A german shepherd would be ideal as they are very tolerant of children and are a deterrent even by looking and hearing. If you want something smaller get a collie off of a farm they have great instinct and are good fun to be with. ATB
  13. German Shepherd Dog. They are fantastic with kids, will protect you to the death. I have a 'pack' of these which I breed. They will bark only when needed, with firm, fair handling they make excellent 'lets go to the park with the kids and dog' type of dog but also 'im being burgled help me' kind of dog too Go to dog training, read up, speak to registered breeders and see lots of litters before making your selection and always ensure you meet mum and dad.
