What does a Top Secret security clearance background investigation entail?

I have an active Secret security clearance, but I would like to know how much more in depth the investigation is for a Top Secret security clearance? Obviously, it's more in depth than a Secret security clearance investigation but how much more different is it?

  1. not 100%, but i know with serious clearances they get into everything. They go way back and not only look at records, but talk to old friends, flings, acquaintances, and everyone. its a serious deal.
  2. It is a depth investigation by an appointed officer of the FBI or CIA, depending on need to know bases. They will investigate your family, friends, and co workers.
