Security Advantage

Are there no security cameras at Virginia Tech?

I go to a small college, and we have security cameras all over the freakin place. I would think that there would have been some kind of security camera or web feed camera somewhere that could have caught at least something that was going on.

  1. You would think so. Maybe they're just not releasing that info yet to the public.
  2. Virginia Tech is the size of a city.
  3. my school doesn't have any security cameras...nor does any that i've ever been to.
  4. As a teacher I would not want a "security camera" in my classroom. Too creepy to think that Big Brother might be watching me all the time when I'm teaching (and I'm not doing anything wrong, and I have nothing to hide, just think it would be creepy to be watched). I'm sure someone will be pushing the idea of security cameras in classrooms now. It is the classic response to this sort of thing: to take away everyone's civil liberties. Anyway, 'catching what was going on' wouldn't have stopped him - just might have given the media more stuff to broadcast. Do we really need to actually see people getting shot?
  5. personaly i think that if they have face recognition technology they should have gun recognition technology and they should put cameras in public places.
  6. they are still analyzing the tapes.
  7. I'm sure they had cameras, but I'm more sure that Cho was very careful about what he did so that he wouldn't be caught until it was too late. Cameras in the classrooms wouldn't have helped much, but in the hallways and public areas, sure.
  8. My high school had camera's but I think that when you get to college things change alot. I think it is the idea that students are adults in college. It's a sense of freedom. I do not believe that this is a right decision, but I go to OU and I have never seen a camera besides when I go to Wal-Mart off campus. I think camera's wouldn't have changed anything though b/c he looked like a normal college student going to class, until he got in the building... but then it was too late.
